    astros are almost comical now.

it's fun just to find ways that they'll blow it next.

maybe we're just trying to get to 15 under again before a magical run

I hate the Cubs but I think they will be this year's Astros from last year.

It's just not fair to expect the Astros to be a contender with this year's squad. Bucholtz (sp) and Nieve may one day be middle of rotation guys, but I think expecting them to win now is a little greedy. We need to appreciate the product we've enjoyed the past couple of seasons and temper expectations...we can't go to the playoffs every year. I think there's a nice nucleus of young talent....clear Bagwell and Clemens off the books and do what the Cleveland Indians have done.

There really are no deals Purpura can make, other than the panicky one in which we sell the farm for an iffy short term fix....the last 2 years we've had top notch pitching with little offense. This year's bunch has holes in every facet of the game....call me stupid, but I think this year can still be enjoyable watching the Stros figure out their gameplan for the future.

The only thing that stinks about this is the payroll we have. If we end up as one of the worst teams in baseball it would have to be a disappointment at $100 + million.

I wonder if the astros are out of it if we could trade Clemens for some prospects before the trade deadline.

If the Astros are clearly out if by the trade deadline, I mean like 10 to 15 games under .500, I say trade Clemens, Petitite, and Wilson. Trade Ausmus if he wants to go and Craig Biggio if he wants to.

Biggio's going nowhere. He won't have much trade value and he wants to get #3000 in Houston.

Perfect game gone. I don't like the Cubs but I wouldn't mind watching a no hitter. If the Astros are going to lose they might as well do it in style.

It's jsut better for my health if I don't watch them right now. It's just frustrating to see a pitcher beat us with his hitting for the 2nd game in 3 days. That's a pretty good sign that things are going very very wrong.

Anyone else starting to believe that Roger will come up with an "injury" in the next couple of weeks and decide to shut it down?

    Dear Tim Purpura,

You suck. How about getting a starter pitcher in the offseason for depth. How about gettting another hitter other than Wilson? Why the hell did you sign Palmerio to a two year contract? You have done nothing in two years here. It was not your team that made the World Series. You have made one trade in two years. Tomorrow is the draft. You had a bad draft last year to. Your 1st round pick has a ERA of 10.22 in low A ball, your sandwhich pick has a batting average of .231 in low A. How about picking a high school kid with a high upside for a change. Astros always pick a college players with limited upsides that don't ever make it.

Man this sucks. It just seems that the Astros are down 4 or 5 nothing by the second inning in every game. Purpura is on the clock now to make this team better. I still believe.

Let me just say this, arguments about adam being a better defensive player is completely irrelevant with sub par starting pitching. you put good defensive players behind good pitching. if your pitching isn't good, its not a priority because if you want to be a defensive club it starts with pitching.

I went to the game tonight. As soon as Zambrano hit the home run, you could feel it in the building. Everyone, team and fans, knew they were done. It was sad. I still think they'll come around though.

The Stros are so bad now they make a lousy team like the Cubs look dominant.

If anything, I think it's the opposite. Your star pitchers (especially those that strike lots of people out) can overcome bad defense. Your bad pitchers - and young pitchers - need the defense to keep you in a game. Not that it would have helped today, but if we get out of the 2nd inning down 1-0 instead of 4-0, it could be a very different game.

    i couldn't agree more.

you need good defense behind you...especially when you're giving up solid hits.
