I was mostly surprised to see how similar their numbers are across the board. They've both been very good.

Some of Santana's numbers are a little worse than usual but nothing significant. The difference is that Santana's been pitching at this level his whole career while this kind of success is new to Wandy despite being pretty good over 137 IP last season.

He used to wear 7 then switched to 12 last season with the Yankees because the number was retired for Mantle. He started this season with 12 again because 7 was retired for Biggio. He decided to make the change because it was closer to his old number.

Sounds insignificant to me. He wanted to make the change so he did.

umm no, some of these guys need rest, the others need work, that's what you do with a nine run lead

agreed. if you're finding fault with cooper right now, you're looking too hard and missing the forest for the trees. i have my concerns with him long-term....but i can't argue with results. whatever they're doing is working.

and you pitch differently with a big lead like that. you challenge more because you can. because you have cushion. many times that leads to a big inning for a team trailing by a huge deficit.

I hope so. Its been a wonder that he has spent this long in the minors, especially with the bullpens early season struggles then he comes out and has a terrible outing when he finally gets called up.

This really makes me hate not getting that last game against the Dodgers. Oswalt could have been pitching for 1st place tonight.

Except for the fact that by winning the last game against the Dodgers, the future may have changed and for all we know, the Astros may have lost the first two Cardinal games.

Yep, agree completely. Very few times in a season do you have the luxury of a 9 run cushion, so when you get it, you take it. Certain guys need the reps, and there is no better practice than an in-game situation. You tell the young guys to go out there and be aggressive, without worrying about the results. That's how they will build their confidence.

I've always thought that Wandy would "get it". I remember two years ago where Wandy was largely dominant at home, but bad on the road. With him it was all about confidence. Before when he lost confidence he'd walk guys left and right and he wouldn't be able to pitch himself out of it. His demeanor has changed now. Now, both at home and on the road, he pitches the same way. He doesn't let the circumstances prevent him from making his pitches.

Very Nice....A win tonight and and rally by the Phillies gives us second along behind the Cards while a Giants and Rockies loses would bring us within 2 games in the WC! Didn't realize how well the Bravos have been playing there right there with us!

Man tonight feels like a really big game ... It seems like most every time I've thought that this year I've been disappointed ... Lets hope Roy changes that tonight! Sweep the birds!
