Big W there ... Time for Valverde to get his stuff together and fast though. Nice Win though for the home opener. Lets keep it going!
just saw it on BBTN... Taguchi shouldn't have dropped that flyball. lidge shouldn't have even been in the situation to throw the wild pitches.
do they have discretion then? I thought they could never get a win without going 5.. but I could be wrong
i generally don't care at all about stats this time of the year, but hunter pence, should we be worried? i'm a little more anxious when it's a young kid i have high hopes for.
Right... not the starter. But the guy who comes in in the middle of the 5th inning, pitches 2/3 of an inning and gives up 2 runs while up 10 to 5, doesn't necessarily get the win. They don't have to award the win to the first reliever after the starter is yanked, if the starter was ahead in the game but didn't go the requisite 5 innings. In that narrow situation, there is discretion as to which reliever to award the win. Otherwise, awarding Ws and Ls are automatic.
I would be a little worried. The other teams have caught on and know where his weakness is (breaking balls down and away) and are exploiting it like crazy. He's an aggressive hitter so he was hitting alot of fastballs last year early in the count. Used to be first or second pitch heater to feel him out and try to get ahead in the count.......no more. Now it's a steady diet of sliders and curves with a fastball mixed in every now and then. He's going to have to make an adjustment or else that's the way he'll be pitched from here on out.
Hey DOMINATOR! This is Astroholic from AstrosNation and AstrosWorld.. we made a new Astros forum and we are going to leave it up this time.. email me johnlfrank@hotmail.com
Yep...Pence needs to make some serious adjustments. If he doesn't, my guess is by June Cruz, Jr. will be in RF.
So, it seems all the hysteria in spring training regarding Tejada's declining defense and bat speed was wishful thinking and complete bull**** generated by media types desperate to write more lazy, holier-than-thou steroid columns. Who could've imagined that? I agree that Valverde's mechanics seem very off.
Valverde has given up runs in every appearence so far this year. From your closer, that is beyone attrocious
Feranando Nieve. He's got electric stuff, but had Tommy John surgery and then had a strain of his left hamstring in ST. First game back with RR was sick: 5IP with 1H, 0BB and 5Ks. I'd give him 4-5 more starts just to get his arm strength and conditioning up to pace, but after that I'd have to think about getting him back up here. He doesn't have anything else to prove in the minors and we may (gulp) need some help closing by then.
