It’s not even about the average or having super-duper stars. It’s having enough professionals in your lineup (or organization) to have professional-type AB’s.

The Astros have 4-5 of such players who can work counts, draw walks, or foul off pitches. The rest either have major ?’s or they’re not the work count type (Diaz, Pena), and that can lead to some major inconsistency/streakiness (in the not so good way).

They’re going to have games where they put up 10+ and everybody will be alleviated…. But hitting is fleeting and you need the battling guys in the lineup to get you through those other days. I just don’t think they have enough of it (or the guys they do have haven’t figured it out yet).

“You never know” is another depressing statement when trying to find solutions to problems that are inherent to the ceiling of your current roster.

This announcing crew is also not used to calling losses more often than not.

He just missed it and not because of Yordan.

“He missed it, let’s call interference.”

had a double against Mets and that is so far the only meaningful hit for the season.

Either way it should have been a foul pop up on a ball that Yordan shouldn’t have swung at… but he’s pressing so you get those swings.

That's not Joe's style. He's "soft" and gets pushed around by the umps.

what do you genuinely make of Bregman and Tucker finally having not a slow start now that they’re with another team?

Walker K’s chasing pitches too often. Not sold on the Walker signing so far.

Espada is such a p***y. Certain situations it's your job to get run. When your team is looking like zombies up and down the lineup you have to do something to light a fire.

this team can't draw walks worth a shiet.

even if they draw walks and get men on base, they can't even bring them in anyways.

this whole damn team is a mess right now.

Tucker started last year on fire. Bregman has had hot starts to seasons as well.

They’re also all-star/professional hitters that know when they’re on and know when they’re off… and know how to make adjustments independent of the “hitting coach” (as do 95% of proven MLB players).

Hitting coaches probably help with day to day preparation for younger guys… or they help some vets occasionally when pitchers have started becoming more deliberate with certain patterns/pitches…. But for the most part, they’re just an outlet for frustrated fans to blame somebody, or frustrated GM’s/owners to have a scapegoat.

So Walker gets a 3 year deal after getting screwed on a 3 year deal with Abreu. Make it make sense.

oh yeah, Walkers war is -0.2 in 2025.
