Wandy should have not started tonight. Reading his comments, he didn't want to pitch but Garner, Hickey, and Purpura forced him to. He didn't eat any solid food for 3 days, didn't pitch his bullpen session, he said he didn't feel strong.
have a feeling this is going to be one of those games where we make an awful pitcher look like a cy young candidate.
First of all, you have absoultely no evidence/source to say Wandy was "forced" to go out there. Wandy made those comments three days ago... he likely felt a ton better, and told Garner he'd be able to make the start. At no level of sports will a coach ever "force" a player to go out there if he himself says he's not ready. You see the converse of that all the time (Coach thinks he's not ready, but player pleads his way to play). Especially with a position as important as starting pitcher... you don't mess with that. Finally, even if Wandy isn't 100% tonight... he would still probably fair better than the starter had he not pitched... Joe Borkowski.
Looks like the bullpen is gonna get some work tonight ... Hope Nieve is ready to take some innings tomorrow.
You're thinking of the ex-Cubs pitcher... Borowski. Borkowski is a different guy (from AAA), and would have gotten the start tonight. Hell, you'll probably see him anyways (with the way this game is going).
Morgan is streaky. Sometimes he looks like the best hitter in baseball and other times looks completely lost.
Sinker-ball pitchers (even in Coors) have been the most effective against Astros this year (as long as they're keeping the ball down.) Even a guy we beat last week (Jason Marquis) elevated the ball a little... but the 'Stros couldn't really knock him out because they just can't hit those sinkers consistently.
Burke just dislocated his shoulder... damn it. (it isn't his throwing hand, but swinging the bat will be problematic for at least 4-6 weeks, if not longer).
He dislocated his shoulder late last year when he played center and he was back within a couple of days I think.
Last year, on the diving catch, the shoulder popped out but popped back in... in this case, that shoulder was out as he was walking off the field (notice how he couldn't move his left arm). A MUCH bigger difference.
