I have paid less attention to the Reds than any NL Central leader in recent years. In my defense, they are the Reds. I'd love to see us win a couple of games against the division leaders, though.
A couple more errors for CJ. He's only 3 off the major league lead for 3B despite not even being qualifed by some sources. Improving upon that and learning to lay off some of the offspeed stuff will be things to work on heading into next season. Oh, and congrats to the Reds... it'll be interesting to see if their pitching holds up in the playoffs. They have plenty of talent in that area but several youngsters without much postseason experience.
Also, I'm glad the younger guys got to see the Reds clinch firsthand. I'm sure most of them have been part of winning teams at earlier stages in their development but it's still nice for them to get a sense of that excitement at this level.
Anyone see Byrdak in the postgame interview? Dude had an ice pack on his shoulder. HE THREW 1 PITCH! Was it hurting from the whiplash of watching the ball fly out of the park?
Got to say, I am jealous. After being apart of so many pennant races from 1994-2006, it's kind of depressing seeing the Reds celebrate a Central division title and Stros nowhere to be found. I can see why Drayton would try to hold on with band-aids from year to year. Hopefully the drafting both state side and international will pay off in a celebration within a few years.
Drew Stubbs with about a .950 OPS over 15 games this season against the team that originally drafted him (but failed to sign him). He also made a great defensive play yesterday but I don't know much about his defensive skills.
Myers being Myers. Gets Stubbs on 3 pitches in Stubbs' next AB. His streak was starting to look to be in jeopardy and still may be if he can't get a couple of quick innings.
Here are my 2010 Astros MVPs for pitching, offense and defense: Pitching: Myers Honorable Mention: Wilton Lopez, Wandy (for his spectacular 2nd half) Offense: Kepp, CJ (even though he'll only log 94 games max) Honorable Mention: Pence (he picked it up over the season but his barely over .800 OPS is average at best for an OFer) Defense: Bourn Honorable Mention: Q
Wow, Kepp threw that a little late but CJ's gotta make that play. Myers getting roughed up for his 2nd consecutive outing. The streak once again in jeopardy.
That may be the difference in Myers keeping the streak alive and not. Of course, Myers isn't pitching very well, either.
