Today's lineup according to Garner. CF-Willy SS-Chris Burke 1B-Mike Lamb RF-Lance Berkman LF-Luke Scott 3B-Aubrey Huff 2B-Craig Biggio C-Ausmus
But, but... I thought we had determined for the rest of time that Chris Burke could never play SS based on those two games earlier this season? You mean to tell me you can't determine a player's entire career by a couple of games? You've got to be kidding me!
Richard Justice said Burke will start at SS tonight but AE back there on Wednesday and Burke will play 2B. He also said Biggio will hit 6th not 7th.
My guess for the lineup today CF-Willy 1B-Lamb RF-Lance Berkman 3B-Aubrey Huff LF-Luke Scott 2B-Biggio SS-Burke C-Ausmus P-Hirsh
You're doing a wonderful job of melodramatically misstating the earlier conversation. If Aubrey Huff is going to be your long-term full-time 3rd baseman, you're going to need a SS with a good bit of range into the hole to compensate for Huff's almost complete lack of range to his left. Dunno where you'd find a SS like that. Desperate times call for desperate measures, though.
I'm sorry; I honestly wasn't alluding to that conversation. I was alluding to conversations earlier in this season where posters claimed that Burke somehow proved to be a "disaster" at SS, despite the fact that he looked capable in spring training and made just one mistake in two games. I know that's not exactly a great ratio, but the point is that one mistake shouldn't doom a player forever.
Personally, I'd have no problems with Burke getting a bunch more PT at short the next month, assuming the Stros don't go on a miracle run starting, oh, tonite. AE also has been playing every day since before Bruntlett's demotion, he's got to be worn out by now (coming up on 2 straight months without a day off, iirc). He is David Eckstein on D, but without Eck's veteran cageyness - watch a few Cards games & look how he positions himself, his footwork approaching the ball & how quick he gets rid of it - he's ridiculously smart in how he compensates. Burke can't do that. Maybe he can learn to, but the only way he can do that is by playing, and the Stros haven't been in a position to let him learn on the job, yet.... But having Burke & Huff together on the left side of the infield is a recipe for, if not disaster, extreme aggravation.
Where is Everett? I hate him not being in but maybe Burke can be close to Biggio and learn a few things before he has to take over 2nd. I think Lamb should be on 1st permanently. I am thinking Huff should be on 3rd permanently too. I love Ensberg but Huff is more on fire than he is. When is House going to get to catch?
Just gotta keep thinking..."enjoy the season while it lasts; don't worry about the playoffs" But it's really hard to do that. C'mon Hirsch, don't let 'em blow it open here. - oh well. Hirsch may be a future #2 or 3 but right now he is getting killed by the fastball; giving up too many damn homers.
Everyone talks about Hirsh like hes this amazing pitcher , but he freaking sucks ... Good Job Man wtf lamb try and get the walk so berkman get bat dumbass..
Thank you. I just can't figure out Hirsch. He is like Scott was last season; great in AAA but not so much in the MLB. Maybe he will get sent back down and we will get him back next season and he will be ready for some major league pitching. I think he's got it in him.
I think I'm going to puke before it's all over with. The Reds are the one of the best right now. I knew this would be hard but damn. This is brutal. 12 pts in 3 innings. Why can't we get some of that love?
