umpires on power trips make me sick. he was calling that pitch a ball no matter where the hell it was. oh well. i'll take it i guess.
he threw 2 strikes down the middle of the plate and were both called balls. the catcher b****ed at the ump after the first one, and the next pitch, which was clearly a strike, he called a ball, and coffey said "right down the middle!", and the oversensitive ump ejected him. just for that.
What do you say? 8 or 9 in a row? haha ... ok so I'm not getting my hopes up, but it would be nice Edit Everett hitting homers and getting RBI doubles, Lane getting RBI singles, What is going on?
my god....just let roy pitch phil. why must you do this? also, was aurilia just playing ausmus on the grass?? he picked that ball up a good 2 ft into the grass there.
[whisper] We've secretly replaced Adam Everett's brain with that of Miguel Tejada's. Let's see if Astros fans notice. [/whisper]
I can't see the game, but I know exactly what you are talking about RF. Monday's game was a prime example. CB Bucknor is terrible. He started the game calling a pitch right at or just below the knees a strike. By the 6th inning the same pitch was a ball. In the 8th and 9th inning it was a strike again. Inconsistent umpiring gets me riled up more than anything else, accept maybe watching the Astros bullpen. Major league umpires are horribly inconsistent. As a coach, I won't usually say anything if a ump is calling a pitch a strike, even though I think it may be a ball, as long as he's consistent with it. One of the local guys had a habit of giving a pitch way off the outside corner. A lot of coaches would b**** about him but he was very consistent with it. So I made sure that when he was behind the plate we lived outside. I always knew it was going to be a good game when I would see him walk up with his mask.
i cant watch the game, but i've come to question nearly all of garner's moves.... so many of them just dont make much sense, and i'm truly left wonder "what in the hell is garner doing?" quite frustrating.
We scored six runs in one inning? This can't be possible. Damn, now they're going to win three in a row and I'm going to start caring about them again. I hate you Astros.
I just checked it out and you are correct. It is very nice. Yahoo has been terrible for a long time and I was using CBS but they have had a slow down lately. Here's hoping the new gamecast will at least keep up with the game a little better than the old one.
I just checked it out as well and the gamecast seemed to actually be a few seconds ahead of the MLB.TV when watching the game broadcast. I know the old gamecast would often lag minutes behind at times.
yes, that, and what pisses me off more are umps who let themselves get involved with beefs with the manager or pitcher, and squeeze the pitcher, and umps who feed off the energy of the home crowd and do the big demonstrative punch out on a called strike three. and in the nba, refs who go along with the momentum and energy of the home team and crowd and do the overblown demonstrative charging call against the visiting team to help get the crowd even more fired up. there's just no place for any of this. some refs think they're bigger than the game, when in fact, they are the polar opposite. they should be viewed as easily replaceable, and disciplined for crap like that, in my opinion. i could go on and on (like how i dont think there should be such thing as tech free throws), but i'll stop here for now. i just hate officials who are just looking for any chance to have their presence known.
My favorite umpiring move was when that big group resigned and then were shocked and angry when their resignations were accepted. I listened to the majority of the game on the radio. One of the new radio guys mentioned that the Astros only have thirty-some-odd sac flys this season. I know everyone knew they were doing pretty poorly in that department, but I didn't realize it was that low.
They have 34. Arizona leads the NL with 42. A lack of sacrifice flies is the least of their offensive woes.
I'll admit, that surprises me. I'd expect the league leader to have something closer to a hundred. But then again, what do I know.
