Dude, I'd so love to. Boogie boarding til I'm exhausted, eating seafood everyday, a few beers before passing out ... only to wake up & find out that the 'Stros clobbered the Padres again. That was sweet ... it really was paradise. & now ... now I'm back. Back watching Yahoo refreshment box scores, & we're losing by almost two touchowns. sadsadsad
When you said you had to watch the box score, I noticed you were from Ohio. I'm not sure if I asked you before but what's the connection between Ohio and Houston? My father's side of the family is from Ohio.
At age 5, my dad gave me a quarter to get a plastic football helmet from a gumball machine as he went through checkout. The result was a blue Houston Oiler helmet. The year was 1973. I asked my dad who they were .. & he proceeded to tell me that they were the HOUSTON OILERS ... the worst team in the league. lol I think they were 1-13 that year? Something like that. My whole family are Steeler fans ... wanted to be different. Especially from my d******d brother. Transposed that Oilers helmet over to EVERY Houston team. I've never strayed. However, I'm one of those dreaded Tennessee Titan fans. Had no idea Houston would ever get another NFL team. The ONLY Houston team I do not root for. I was only in Houston once. For like 20 minutes, at the airport. haha
Cool story. I actually briefly became a Toronto Blue Jays fan as a kid after I saw a shirt in a retail store when my family was on vacation. I know, it makes no sense. I was like 7-years-old at the time. I think I followed the Blue Jays for a year or two then forgot about them altogether. I also became a Roger Clemens fan when I was very young after attending a Red Sox-Indians game with my father. We were traveling through the Boston area and planned ahead to catch an Indians game. Clemens happened to be pitching that day and ended up notching his first 20-win season. Ahhhhh, the offensive juggernaut that was the classic Pat Corralas tribe. I remember it well. Look at that line-up. Good god. It was actually very weird when the Tribe became good in the mid-90's. I was so used to them being a TOTAL after-thought for my entire childhood. I grew up in Ravenna, went to school at Kent State. I never liked Cleveland teams. Watched & giggled like a girl from the back of a bar as Elway shoved "the drive" down the Dawg Pounds throat. Didn't so much mind the Cavs ... used to like going to games at The Richfield Coliseum. Saw every era of the Rockets play there. Ralph Sampson poured in something like 45 on the Cavs in 1986. Good times.
I try to make-up for my lack of REAL game-viewing by taking in as many Astros spring training games as I can, as I am currently in Central Florida. I've caught about 15-20 in the last three years or so. Not quite as good as the real thing, but it's good to be around fellow Astro fans for a bit. Seeing the Rockets IN Houston would rock. I saw them hammer (not really hammerhammer, but won nonetheless) the Magic here in Whorelando last November. It was Asian appreciation night. Many fine chickadees waltzing around. In packs of 10. Kung Pao princesses everywhere you looked.
i picked the giants in to the world series in the Hangout thread before the season started. their pitching is killer. i'd love to see it in the playoffs...as long as it's not against the 'stros. still pissed i can't watch lincecum today due to Uverse......my favorite player in any sport not wearing a Houston jersey.
i don't disagree with the premise.... but that number is sure to rise as baseball continues to let 8 teams into the postseason every year. as opposed to 4 not that long ago.
The game isn't on MLB Network, either....they're showing Rays at Rangers. why is this game not being broadcast locally???? ahhh...didn't realize that. the astros are either the fox saturday game or their game starts at 6 pm, so this usually doesn't come up. unfortunate timing with a lincecum start. we don't get to see the giants enough, as it is. i'm guessing it would be blacked out even if i bought MLB TV to stream through the internet, huh????

I think so. I know that with extra inning on TW the games going against the fox games are blacked out. Not 100% on mlb.tv though. But when I used to have mlb.tv the astros games were always blacked out (due to local rights) on there when I lived in Houston or Austin.
You would think they would allow the game to be shown on MLB.TV at the very least. I mean, the game is not on tv and we pay a premium for this service.
How is this game not on TV? We aren't living in the 60s lol. Millions of people pay for 250+ channels this is unacceptable.
Good point but I think that rise will only be marginal. The frequency that teams with negative run differentials make the postseason will likely just go from extremely rare to very rare and I think in the few instances that it does happen, that team will be the winner of a weak division. I checked standings back to 2002 on ESPN.com and over the past 7 years only 2 out of 56 playoff teams finished the season with negative run differentials (the '05 Padres and the '07 D'backs) and both of those teams won their division. I'm sure there is a site where I could check back to 1995 when the first 8 team playoff took place but I think going back to 2002 is sufficient data to get a good picture. My guess would be that over the next 25 years, there will only be about 4 or 5 teams out of 200 that make the postseason with negative run differentials and not one of those teams will be a wild card winner. This is of course assuming that the current playoff format remains a constant.
I just cant stop complaining that this game is not on tv! Sorry for my incessant whining. It just ticks me off. Ok, I am done.
