Jeez Paulino...I think he's making Coop's decision easier on who the odd man out will be in the rotation after the All Star break.
Just for making that obnoxious comment in an Astros forum, I will enjoy watching SF fall off the map in the 2nd half of the season. Cain won't keep looking like Lincecum and Zito/Johnson will implode more often than not. Despite this thrashing, the SF offense has the worst OBP in the NL and the second worst slugging. Your offense won't be able to handle even a slight drop in the quality of pitching.
And yes. This is an explosion for San Fran, much like 9 runs is for us. They've managed to win a healthy amount of low-scoring games because their stellar pitching allows them to royally suck on offense (.698 team OPS? ). If the pitching goes.... then it stands to reason that they're not going to win very many games.
fall off the map? if anything, they have the pitching to survive and thrive (especially in the playoffs if they make it). they have one of the best bullpens in the league, and arguably the best starting rotation in the league. of course the offense is garbage, that's always been their problem. but they've been hitting recently, benefiting from young homegrown talent like shierholtz and of course sandoval. i honestly thought the giants were a year away from contending, but i guess not. the giants have two top pitching prospects (madison bumgarner and tim alderson) and our very own version of matt wieters in buster posey coming up. next year we'll be even better.
I was just messin' with you. I am interested to see how Posey plays out. He's mashing in the minors and is probably ready offensively right now. You guys do have some nice prospects that I've read about. As far as this year, I think you'll need to add a bat or two to contend. I wouldn't have much confidence in Zito/Johnson and I don't think Cain will continue at this pace. Your offense is bad, regardless of what it's done lately. Your pitching is good but I don't think this team is the next coming of the '05 Astros as is.
I understand that this game is a lost cause and Coop wants to save the bullpen as much as possible but DAMN!!!!
I didn't think anybody would score more runs than the Indians today. 13 runs on 14 hits through 3 innings. We have 0 hits.
He's used 2 pitchers already. You have to figure somebody will eventually get some outs and the Giants bats will cool off. I actually don't mind what Cooper is doing. We should waste as few arms as possible.
yeah, i think cain will drop off, but not too much. he's been a mid 3 ERA pitcher his entire career, and he's improved, so he should perform reasonably close to how he is now. zito is a mystery. his ERA with sandoval catching is something like 3 or below; with molina catching, zito's been awful. he's also getting the lowest run support in the entire majors, so yeah, his record is a lot worse than it should be. johnson is nothing more than a solid but unremarkable pitcher. 6 innings, 2-3 ER is a good start for him at this point, and we can live with that. back to the offense, it's just abysmal. the worst the majors, easily. if we got a legit cleanup hitter though, the team would gain so much. i wish the giants didn't use up all their offense tonight. we could use some against oswalt...looking forward to the pitching duel tomorrow.
