just enjoy going to the park to watch baseball with no expectation. geez, we did that for years in a stadium, not a ballpark, watching this franchise.
Blum went the short way to second for the out, which iirc would've ended the inning, but the ump said he came off the bag too early and the runner was called safe. Replay looked like he had it but what do I know. The inning extended and got their 3-1 lead at the time.
Here is a link to the video: http://houston.astros.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=8099629 Good play by Blum. Bad call by the umpire. I guess from now on, 2B should just stay on the bag well after the catch to get spiked in the leg by sliding players. It pisses me off that an umpire cost us the game in the 1st inning. At least they didn't count the runs as earned. Official scorer should be allowed to change it it to an error on the umpire. Would have been the 2nd out, but the next batter flew out on what would have been the 3rd out. Instead Blake got to belt a 2-run double.
Yeah, bad call I thought as well. But thanks for clearing that up and correcting the situation. Though the video link showed me Michael Bourn scoring. I think this is it: http://houston.astros.mlb.com/video/play.jsp?content_id=8099781&topic_id=8879000&c_id=hou
Fixed my link. I forgot that I didn't go directly to that highlight first, so the web address wasn't right. This team can't afford bad calls in order to win.
meh -- if a team can't overcome one bad call, it didn't deserve to win. i love my astros and will stand by them, just like in the 80s and early 90s... ...but they suck. no excuses. they suck. hard.
Anybody watch the Hanley Ramirez loafing play last night? As great a player as he is, I wouldn't want that on my team. Carlos Lee moves faster than that. http://florida.marlins.mlb.com/news..._id=10148474&vkey=news_fla&fext=.jsp&c_id=fla
Seeing Hanley in an Astros uniform would be a dream come true. The guy already regrets signing that long term contract in Florida. Could easily see him in a Red Sox uniform.
The bad part is if u flash forward 5yrs we may still be in the same spot just with a cheaper payroll.
Which is why I am against trading Berkman and Oswalt. They have not been able to draft well at all for years, why can they get a good trade for prospects?
That's not necessarily true. They didn't sign a decent portion of their higher picks. That coupled with the fact that we didn't even try to build the farm after 2004 and mortgaged the farm for our 2000 playoff runs by trading away prospects by the dozens. Drayton also hasn't been very willing to go over slot or seemingly sign prospects at all the last few years (good ones anyway). If they trade Berkman and Oswalt, we'll get some good players in return and I hope we do.
Its atleast worth a shot I guess. Berkman will most likely be washed up in a yr or two so we might as well get something for him while we can. You couldnt get a box of baseballs for Lee so thats not an option and I dont think Oswalt wants to be here so we should unload him sometime in June.
Yea, but this time around, we don't have 3 aces on the staff while the black hole of Everett/Ausmus would actually represent a significant offensive upgrade for this 2010 version of the Astros. Our offense was bad in 2005 but it's even worse this season and we don't have the pitching to repeat that miracle. We allowed the fewest runs of any team in baseball that season by a wide margin.
Ballgame? The Astros need to score at least 4 runs 2 outs into the game. I have a feeling that the Cardinals will put an end to the legend of BudChuck assuming that Norris lasts as starter long enough for that to happen.
