Off topic but does Dallas Keuchel still tweet? I'd be interested in hearing what he had to say after getting smacked around in b2b starts. He was kind of clueless about publishing his thoughts a while back.

I get your point, I really do, but to many cases, not all, where I just shake my head looking at some of those metrics. I'll stick to my human eyes and simple stats for now, I'm sure one day I turn to the darkside but just not today.

I do agree with you about that. Stats definitely don't tell the whole story and can be flat out wrong occasionally. Maybe that'll prove to be the case with Upton over the next few years. He's certianly been cringe-worthy awful recently. I was surprised to see the numbers myself. I just checked them out of curiosity when I read your initial comment. I would have guessed that you were spot on before seeing them.

Damn good outing for Brett tonight, if only Wade had just picked up his option and not fallen in love with a good half season of baseball.

I wonder how much the fact that he drafted him obscured his thinking. Then again, it doesn't seem like he puts much emphasis on even marginally advanced data based on several of his decisions.

Was checking what year Wade became the Phillies' GM and saw this:

"Wade traded Curt Schilling, the Phillies' long-time ace, to the Arizona Diamondbacks for Omar Daal, Vicente Padilla, and Travis Lee. He signed veterans Mike Lieberthal and David Bell to large contracts when they were approaching the end of their careers. He also included no-trade clauses in star players Bobby Abreu, Jim Thome, and Pat Burrell's contracts."

Nothing new... just a summary of some of his mistakes. He obviously oversaw a lot of good things too but the above stuff were moves made in areas where he has more direct and total control over the decision-making. He's much more experienced now though for what it's worth so hopefully he's learned a lot. Let's just forget KazMat, Hall, Villarreal, Lyon, etc... ;)

That last pitch looked like less of a strke than the ball called before it.

When you've been kicked in the sack repeatedly for over 100 games, it really doesn't hurt anymore. I'm actually looking forward to seeing the young guys play more baseball.

Sad and happy. Disappointed we blew the lead but I'm happy for Goldschmidt, a fellow Texas State alumnus.

Vlad might have swung at that pitch... saw him put a ball in play off the hop last season. One of the all-time greatest hackers. Effective but don't teach the kids that stuff.
