That first inning, I think 99.5% of his pitches were fastballs. Maybe he mixed in one change, but it was all 4-seam action.

we swept them with berkman missing two of the three games. if they can win tomorrow, they'll be 4-2 against the top 2 teams in the NL central w/o lance berkman in the starting line-up.

look at the phillies - a strong WS contender. they just dealt for cliff lee and signed pedro martinez. you're in a coma if you think the astros are the only team in contention with problems at the back-end of its rotation.

mattj can apparently read; awesome - it's been in the chronicle all day. and so what?

i just don't understand this prevailing attitude with FAR too many fans these days. part of the inherent lure of sports is anticipation- have you never sat on the edge of your seats wondering what's going to happen next? isn't that what makes sports so much fun?

but nowadays, it seems no one wants to give anything time to actually play out. instead, they want to draw their own conclusions *today* and then gripe about those still-unproven conclusions until everyone's ears bleed. it's so self-defeating that i can't imagine those fans have actually having any fun watching sports. and watching sports should be FUN!

i saw it last year after the texans started 0-4; i saw it last year when everyone wanted the astros to cut bait and trade away all their players; now i'm seeing it again - the astros are 2.5 games out of first place: where is all this misplaced doom-and-gloom coming from???

i'd MUCH rather the astros play meaningful games late into the year and fail than watch them play out the string of a long-ago lost season. i'm just at a loss why this isn't FUN.........

That backdoor slider was pretty nice.

At least we continue to lead the majors in GIDP.

Between that and being tied for the most CS in the NL, its pretty obvious why this offense doesn't score more runs.

Man, that is well-stated. I agree!

As it concerns the current Astros, on paper they're just not that good. Also, they're overplaying their "pythagorean", if you put stock in stuff like that. I don't expect them to finish the season within 3 games of the WC or the division, but I don't expect they'll lose 90 games, either.

But I keep watching/listening! Because one never knows what will happen (especially in baseball). It's still fun, even though they're pretty much mediocre.

Daaamn. Bud blew through the Cubs that half inning.

    2 IP, 3 K's, 1 BB on 28 pitches? I'll take it.

A much better inning. He threw only 7 pitches, 5 for strikes.

I am getting goosebumps...Remember what happened in 01 when a smallish pitcher came up for the Stros due to injury, his name

    ROY OSWALT!!!

I don't think it''s too surprising that he's pitching well so far...this is the Cubs first look at him...be interesting to see how well he does the second time through the lineup, if he stays in that long.

He was bound to be a little more under control after taking his first breath in 30 minutes.

Hampton sucks...too inconsistent from one game to the next.

Astros are getting spanked again. Gotta love it when your team is knocked completely out of it in the first inning alone.

Is it time to plunk Soriano yet? I think so. Got nothing left to lose this game.
