Yes, but we are one good pitcher away...Moehlor is fine and if Norris is good then we good just need that solid 3... ZACH DUKE!
Sorry to say but this team isnt competing this season and good luck finding 3 more quality or even halfway decent pitchers before the TD. Maybe 4 depending on if Roy is out. But maybe Norris proves to be something and then you need 3, maybe 2 more. I hope they address this problem and upgrade the pitching staff in the offseason. You cant be like the Phoenix Suns of baseball and try and outscore everyone with your hitters and batting hoping that no matter how bad your pitchers are(defense in basketball), your offense will come through. Good pitching is better than good hitting.
He very well could be but that is asking a lot,IMO,of a rookie pitcher who has never had experience in the big leagues, yet alone you're asking him to help keep you "afloat" and contending.
....... uhm, they're 2.5 games out of first place; at worst, they'll be 3.5 out tomorrow morning with 3 coming up against the first-place cards - a team they just swept. let's not pull the covers over the team just yet. good lord.....
So a week ago we were contenders when we swept the Cards, but now we're pretenders because Hampton has given up 7 runs so far. They could lose by 20 runs today for all I care (and they may very well come back and win). If they come back and win tomorrow, then they would have split this 4 game series with the Cubs, and that's not too shabby. All the teams in the NL central have problems, not just the Astros.
Ok, St Louis didnt have Holliday or Lugo, who are both hot right now. And you're gonna tell me this team is gonna contend with Hampton, Ortiz at the back end of rotation with an ailing Roy and Berkman? And all, take this for what its worth but MattJ said Oswalt is likely to miss one start. Didnt hear that or see it, so forgive me if already mentioned.
They're not competing today...but they have been competing this season, as evidenced by the fact they're only 2.5 games out of first place coming in to today's game. 1/162 ain't much of a sample size.
At least he gets the lead off man about 62% of the time. Too bad about that 38% they do get on. Lead off men before this game have an OPS of .908 against Hampton.
I dont want to be the negative nancy around here, so I'll make one last comment. They're not competing today, theyre not going to compete every 4th and 5th day as long as Hampton and Ortiz are around. And IMO, its going to be hard for this team to contend down the stretch but not just because of starting pitching. Theyre not as good as St Louis or Chicago. The offense wont be consistent down the stretch. Matsui will still be in the lineup, K machine Pudge will still be there giving you 2 k's a night, Pence will still be chasin balls low and high, inside and out, and that horrific bench they got - one of the worst in the league. And not to mention, injuries. Alright I'm done.
I really like Hampton but if aint the Pirates or his former mates then he is getting hurt bad...time to move on and try something new BAZARDO!!!
As bad as this is, the Jennings debacle a couple of years ago was far worse. Looks like Norris is coming in. He probably won't start before next week.
