If Roy's situation is serious, I'd say this eliminates the already small chance of a big name player coming in. If anything, we would make a small deal to bring in a low-end SP. More likely than that, we'd use guys like Norris and Bazardo.

My mom had appendicitis too when I was 4 or 5. She had been to the doctors a few times and they never could find the problem. One day it burst and she had to drive with me to the hospital and was rushed to surgery. She seems to have bad luck with her organs bursting as she also had an ectopic pregnancy that caused her fallopian tube on one side to burst prior to that.

Serious stuff, but it is a fairly common procedure, and pretty safe. I'm sure Wright will be fine, but he would be the one to go on the DL.

if roy's injury is serious, i'd say chances are pretty close to 100% that they trade for a low-end SP.

I haven't seen him pitch, but I did read an article about him recently. Basically its said that he has very poor control, and that it was his control that was keeping him in the minors. He added a changeup to his arsenal after last season, which is in part why he has such an improved ERA. Now he has 3 pitches, so he could be a quality starter. I think his other pitches are a mid-90s fastball and a curveball(or maybe a slider).

You're probably right. If this forces them to go get an upgrade over any of our current 3-5 and Roy somehow bounces back, that could potentially end up being pretty good for us, assuming we stay in the race.

yeah and actually i'd say probability is high that they get somebody anyway because of the uncertainty of his injury.

also, i'm going out on a limb and saying norris starts thursday afternoon to get him a start and see what they have in him before the deadline. i can't figure out any other reason for the timing.

If Roy's injury is serious they shouldn't be buying anything. The Red Sox are DESPERATE for a bat. Sell them Tejada to play 3B or SS and get at least 1 high level prospect in return.

no matter how dire the roster situation is, i can't say that NO owner would authorize trading a player as hot as Tejada when they are 2 games back in the division 100 games in, but i guarantee that the thought would never even enter Uncle Drayton's mind.

one thing is for sure though, they are insane if they don't get something for Valverde.

I think this would be an interesting scenario:

Make a trade with an out-of-contention team to upgrade the backend of the rotation then move Valverde to an in-conention team for a good prospect or two.

In other words, we could perhaps upgrade our rotation while also getting a better prospect(s) for Valverde than we give up for the SP if we can find both a contending team that is desperate enough for a closer and a non-contending team that isn't asking for much for the low-end SP.

I'd give Wade props if he can pull that off.

Wanted the photo on the next page to get me pumped for tomorow's game when I see it.

Glad we won this game. Hope Roy's injury isn't too serious.

wonder if this turns us into buyers...or sellers....or both....and if so, for the future or for now?

I think I projected about 75 wins in that thread at the beginning of the season.

I'd say a little bit better but we have an extremely tough schedule the rest of the way. We haven't even faced the slugging Phillies yet. I believe I heard that we have the most difficult SOS of all the "contending" NL teams.

    Edit: Here's the thread: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showthread.php?t=162947&highlight=prediction

    My guess was 76-86.
