I see this being discussed in almost every thread and I thought it would make for some interesting discussion.

I keep wondering why JVG's offense has always stunk it up.. is it his style of play? Dump down low and everyone get out of the way? We wait too long to get our offense initiated? The plays just take to long to run?

watching our guys run the offense is horrible I worry about a shot clock violation on almost every possession (ok im being a lil overdramatic) but you get the point.

I guess my question is ..

are we really running an offensive scheme? It seems like a lot of ISO and not enough passing. Am I missing something?

I see our offense this way...

    1. Dump it into the post to Yao/MoT and let them create.
    2. Pass it around the perimeter and someone takes a three.
    3. Someone tries to take someone 1 on 1 (ISO)

and that seems to be the extent of our offense.. I see some comments w/ people detailing our offensive schemes but personally I dont see real plays being run..

    any thoughts?

I think we have a such a talented offensive team but we said that last year. Whats the reason we cant put it in the basket?

    Either...

    1) The players spend too much energy on D and don't have enough left for O.
    2) They are a bunch of no talent players who can't play.
    3) The players don't care about scoring.
    4) The scheme is too complicated for them to understand.
    5) The scheme is so simple that it's easy to stop.
    6) The scheme doesn't have you play for high percentage shot.

    I'd guess 1, 5 and 6.

First off, this is pre-season and this group, most of them, are new to each other. They are trying to figure out how to fit in under the system.
The offense so far isnt pretty truly. But one thing I really liked about so far is Yao actually is trying to re-post if he didnt get a good position. Also I saw PnR between Yao and Tmac. But that is a work in progress so far. It looks like Tmac likes to go to his right, but Yao often sets it up for him to go to the left around his man.
JVG is also trying letting Tmac create outside and have Yao underneath the basket to rebounds. I think that will be an effective scheme as they are more comfortable with it.
The connection between Tmac and Yao is what we should be excited about. When both Yao and Tmac on the strong side along with JJ, I think this is going to be our money.

    It's going to take time.
