Do you mean that the above list included all NBA offensers and defenders?

    Its a fair list

but then you gotta explain to me how you compare who is an offensor or a defenders

    case in point:

    Ron Artest
    Tim Duncan
    Shawn Marion
    Raja Bell
    Kobe Bryant
    Jermaine Oneal
    Chris Paul
    Paul Pierce
    Kevin Garnett
    Josh Howard
    Gerald Wallace
    Stephen Jackson
    Josh Smith
    Dwayne Wade
    Allen Iverson
    Jason Kidd
    Chauncy Billups
    Rip Hamilton
    Rasheed Wallace

These guys are all GREAT players in both offence and defence
In fact people like Tim Duncan and KG are rated for their defence sometimes over their offence, same with Artest.

Where do these guys belong in your theory?

I means all current NBA players. And the best way is considering ALL NBA players year by year.

As for Duncan, you can think that he is a double player, one offensive Duncan and one defensive Duncan. And many other great players are similar to Duncan.

    thats a joke

so buying Chucky Atkins, Damon Stoudamire whilst trading for Tashyuan Prince would mean you got two offensors and one defence. Then that would mean that team is going offensive since they got two more offensive players vs 1 defensive player. When clearly Prince is a better player then both of them together.

I do think the team work is very important.

It is too complex to use market value and salary cap in my simple model. But it doesn't mean that I can't use market value and salary cap in the real NBA discussion.

If you don't understand my model, it is very difficult for me to explain. Most superstars are good/great players in my model, they are not offensers or defenders in the model.

And, if you want to attack me, you need prove my model or my statement wrong:

"To be a good NBA team, defense is important, but offense is more important than defense".

    but they did

the top two Eastern Conference teams at the moment are Detroit and Celtics, both ranked top 5 in the league for defence.

Phoneix is on top of the Western Conference but their defensive efficiency has acutally IMPROVED over previous seasons in the last three seasons (correct me if im wrong somebody, cause i think thats right)

The next 5 Western conference teams are fair defensive teams as well. The only one in play off contention that are all offence is Golden State. The next two under them are Houston and Utah who are not bad in the defence area either.

Really the only team that is following your theory at the current point in time is the Suns

If you disagree with me, fine, I have nothing to lose. When you consider it in the big big NBA market, most details will be even out. Do you really know what I am talking about? :

I've already answered a similar question in my post #84. You may take a look.

    Ok
    06-07 Spurs- Offense (5th) Defense (2nd)
    05-06 Heat- Offense (7th) Defense (9th)
    04-05 Spurs- Offense (8th) Defense (1st)
    03-04 Pistons- Offense (18th) Defense (2nd)
    02-03 Spurs- Offense (7th) Defense (3rd)
    01-02 Lakers- Offense (2nd) Defense (7th)
    00-01 Lakers- Offense (2nd) Defense (21st)
    99-00 Lakers- Offense (4th) Defense (1st)
    98-99 Spurs- Offense (11th) Defense (1st)
    97-98 Bulls- Offense (8th) Defense (3rd)
    96-97 Bulls- Offense (1st) Defense (4th)
    95-96 Bulls- Offense (1st) Defense (1st)
    94-95 Rockets- Offense (6th) Defense (12th)
    93-94 Rockets- Offense (15th) Defense (2nd)

you said defence is more important then offence in that post.
The above teams are the ones that have recently won a championship. Assume that those teams if their offence is better then their defensive rank we will say they are an offensive team. And if their defence rank is better then they are a defensive team.

9 of the above teams are defensive teams
5 of the above teams are offensive teams so to speak

9 out of 14 teams that have won a championship have a higher defensive ranking then their offensive ranking. How does that make offence better then defence then?

Ok then lets break it down

To be a GOOD NBA team.

Does a Championship team count as the best NBA team? or a Good NBA team at least? Or do you consider championship teams as not good NBA basketball teams.

9 out of the last 14 Championship teams emphasis defence. So they are not good NBA teams then?

Good or best, it doesn't matter.

    I means:

Defense is very important, but offense is more important than defense.

So, you still didn't understand my post #84? Read it again.

Since when is saying anything in absolute, tautological terms ever reasonable?

Offense is more important in the regular season and has a great deal to do with playoff seeding (more so in the past). However, the statistics back up the position that defense wins championships. That's true most of the time, year in and year out, with one or two exceptions.

There's no need for anybody to be dick about their opinions on this matter. But you made your point, and it was rejected by consensus. Welcome to Clutchfans. Now please for the love of Clutch the Bear go and bark up another tree!

    that is not your quote

To be a good NBA team, defense is important, but offense is more important than defense.

your exact quote to be a good NBA team

so then i ask you the question again, are those championship teams not good teams then?
they have defence above offence. In Particular the Detroit championship team recently. 18th in offence and 1st in defence. Clearly favouring defence above offence.

You need both defense and offense power to win. Having offensive power is a must. A team that can only average 80-90 pts cannot win a lot games. Defensive power is a plus or an advantage and a crucial advantage to win critical and tight games.

Championship teams are good teams or best teams.

Can you understand my following "NBA center" example? Let me paste my old answers here:

all these facts can't prove my following statement wrong:
To be a good NBA team, defense is important, but offense is more important than defense.

Let me give you an example. I can always say:
To be a good NBA center, height is important, but basketball skill is more important than height.

You can always show me that all those good NBA centers are very tall and have very good basketball skills. But you can't say:

To be a good NBA center, basketball skill is important, but height is more important than basketball skill.

    Also, you can't say:

To be a good NBA center, height is as important as basketball skill.

But your theory doesn't explain the Detroit Pistons of 03-04 and to a degree the 98-99 Spurs.

The Pistons are 18th in Offence, but 1st in Defence
They can't possibly be a good NBA team under your theory because their defence is alot more important than their offence.

Explain to me how your theory works for that team.

At first of all, I never said my statement(you call it theory) can explain everything. My statement can tell a big picture. The big picture is "offense is more important than defense". And you must understand that the real NBA is very complex, and there are many exceptions. Also, it is very difficult to determine a team's real offense or defense ranking.

There is another exception on defensive side:
    00-01 Lakers- Offense (2nd) Defense (21st)
    Can you explain it?

Basically, you can't use exceptions to prove anything.

Ostensibly the same team was 1st in defense the year before.

And they beat a similarly talented offensive team (Sacramento) to win the West.

    I'm done with this thread.
