Notice hardly any mention on the morning news shows this morning? Not one mention on the Today show in the first 25 minutes of this morning's program.
None. MSNBC had the gall to say the police "were just doing there job" last night briefly. The media silence is exactly what deserves to be protested. The "watchers" are now owned by those "to be watched". At least two reporters and a city councilman beaten and arrested. I doubt you'll even hear much about that.
I like Bloomberg's ridiculous line: "Raid done overnight to reduce confrontation." More like to "hide confrontation", you asshat. As if anyone with half a brain cannot read through that bull****...
labor deserves a lower a wage? Please go tell the firefighters, police, nurses, teachers, lineman, etc. that they all deserve a lower wage. Meanwhile stick up for the failure CEO's that get millions of dollars each year even when their companies perform poorly. Those guys deserve their huge salaries, but workers don't deserve their modest ones? You're a joke right?
The news of the raid was at the top of the MSN home page and was on the CBS Early Show headlines at the start of the show. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/45299622/ns/us_news-life/#.TsJrvFbDBko Not saying I agree with the raids but there has been coverage.
Supposedly police helicopters prevented news helicopters from filming the brutal attack. The police prevented the media from getting to the scene to cover what was happening. It will be interesting and critifcal to the well being of most of the people on this board and certainly the majority of their family members if the billionaire mayor of NYC can crush the Occupy Movement like this. Hopefully this type of tactics will backfire as they did in Egypt, Tunisia and elsewhere.
It seems in America, exactly as it is right now in Syria, the authorities are centrally focused on eliminating imagery that will cause sympathy or curiosity.
Ask Muslims if after their treatment post 9/11 they find the jokes so funny, especially without an emoticon. Tell lots of N word jokes?
If I was an editor I would say no. The OWS movement and the raids should be reported but they are not comparable to something like Tiananmen or the Iranian protests a few years ago. Protests that did dominate the news. This isn't the end of the movement as people will still be allowed to protests just not live at these sites. If this was a matter of completely shutting down the movement through outright banning of future protests that would merit much much more coverage.
Democracynow.org on now if you wan't some non-corporate coverage of the attack and the #Occupy Wall Street NYC
Not even remotely in the same ballpark as US troops aren't using tanks and attack helicopters against OWS. Its this type of hyperbole, on any side, that makes having reasoned discussion difficult. It makes it impossible to discuss nuance or complexity just a reduction of debate into overheated rhetoric.
Why do the liberals here insist on calling the rioters non-violent? Squatting on private property (Zucotti Park) for 2 months is not non-violent. They are by force taking something that isn't theirs. The other OWS camps haven't been non-violent either. Reports suggest the riots have cost businesses in NY $500,000, but by all means let them stay and cost citizens more. Spoiler
Who owns the owns the controls the mass media outlets by virtue of the way the system is set up? No Cialis ads, no news. But it's changing. With the their 2nd.Amendment rights, it could be more violent. We are talking about Corporate America conspiring to control government for their own benefit, taking rights and privileges away from The People. That's a guillotining in some times and places.
an email this morning: Friends, Liberty Plaza (Zuccotti Park), home of Occupy Wall Street for the past two months and birthplace of the 99% movement that has spread across the country and around the world, was evicted by a large police force in full riot gear. Three ways to get involved and help: —————————————————- Come out in person today at 9am EST —————————————————- We are re-gathering today at 9am EST at Canal and 6th Ave. This movement can’t be contained in one square block in lower Manhattan. It is bigger than that. You can’t evict an idea whose time had come. Show your support. Turn out en masse. —————————————————- Join a Call to discuss Direct Action at noon EST —————————————————- We also have a Direct Action call planned today at noon. This was already scheduled via InterOccupy.org, but we’d like to suggest that the call be used to directly discuss what can be done in response to today’s eviction. Please spread the word to Direct Action folks in your occupation that this call is happening! To register for the call, go here: http://interoccupy.org/ —————————————————- Call assistant Attorney General with the Civil Rights Division —————————————————- Attached to this email is a complaint submitted on behalf of the Occupy Movement to the Department of Justice in response to the increasing antagonism of police against peaceful protesters. It was formally submitted to the Department of Justice on 11/10/2011. It is addressed to a Mister Thomas Perez, the assistant Attorney General with the Civil Rights Division. Mr. Perez’s office number is (202) 514-4609. Let us call, tied up his lines, and demand that every citizen has a right to peaceably assemble without the threat of police violence. Forward widely. PLEASE FORWARD THIS EMAIL IMMEDIATELY AS FAR AND WIDE AS YOU CAN!!!!!!! In Solidarity! Movement Building Working Group Liberty Plaza NYC
