The good news just keeps rolling in for ACA.

Uninsurance Rate Falls To Five-Year Low As 3.3 Million Enroll In Obamacare

Nearly 3.3 million Americans enrolled in private health plans through Obamacare’s state and federal marketplaces from October through February 1, with 1.1 million signing up in January alone. The data comes on the same day that a Gallup survey found that the U.S. uninsurance rate has hit a five-year low:

The percentage of uninsured Americans fell to 16.0% so far in the first quarter of 2014 from 17.1% in the fourth quarter of 2013.

Can't remember the name but after Obama's state of the union someone was citing as ending up with a worse health insurance plan.

Turned out after she was interviews, the insurance she was on before Obamacare wasn't insurance at all. So she ends up with a more expensive plan and is quoted as being bemused at how her friend got a better deal.

Turns out her friend actually went to the website while this buffoon didn't.

    Too Funny!

    Virginia adopts Obamacare.

    "But don't call it Obamacare"

Va. Senate panel proposes alternative to Medicaid expansion

RICHMOND — Senate budget leaders said Sunday that they were rejecting Medicaid expansion as they approved a state spending plan that would nevertheless tap $2 billion a year in federal Medicaid funding to extend health insurance to low-income and disabled Virginians.

Instead of expanding Medicaid as it has traditionally operated, the Senate Finance Committee proposed helping up to 400,000 Virginians buy private insurance through a program that would be known as “Marketplace Virginia.”

Someone needs to start a Midterm thread.

More GOP Governors Back Medicaid Expansion Alternatives

A small but growing number of Republican governors and GOP-led legislatures are seeking federal approval and funding to implement alternative Medicaid expansion plans while continuing to oppose the Affordable Care Act, the Washington Post reports.

According to the Post, the strategy allows the governors to remain distant from the ACA and ensure that their states do not miss out on additional federal funding.

GOP Governors Who Embraced Medicaid Expansion Better Positioned for 2014

Despite threats of retaliation from opponents of the ACA, GOP governors who have embraced Medicaid expansion appear to have a better chance of re-election than those who did not, according to political observers, Politico reports.

Republican governors supporting expansion -- including Iowa Gov. Terry Branstad, Michigan Gov. Rick Snyder, New Mexico Gov. Susana Martinez, Ohio Gov. John Kasich and Tennessee Gov. Bill Haslam -- are considered to be front-runners in their respective gubernatorial races this year. In Nevada, Gov. Brian Sandoval (R) -- who is the only GOP governor to embrace Medicaid expansion, as well as support the creation of a state-run insurance exchange -- is not facing a significant challenge from either Democrats or his own party.

Although longtime ACA opponents in those states have expressed frustration with their governors, they no longer are threatening to remove them from office, according to Politico. Using former President Regan's quote -- "An 80% ally isn't a 20% traitor" -- Americans for Prosperity President Tim Phillips noted, "It means we don't write them off when they've done a lot of good things."

Conversely, governors who consistently have opposed or blocked Medicaid expansion "have found themselves skewered by the left," according to Politico. Democratic Governors Association Chair and Vermont Gov. Peter Shumlin said those governors are "turning those federal dollars down because they don't like the president or to make a political point," adding, "Those folks are going to be punished at the polls" (Cheney/Hohmann, Politico, 2/25).

Hasn't all that extra "income" just been diverted from someone else?

Tax credits. Medicaid benefits. Subsidies. That money came out of some other American's pocket, no?

All of my clients and people I work with in eCommerce have had record breaking sales in January and February. I never thought it could be due to Obama care but after reading that it appears to be related. Wow.

It was being diverted anyway. ER visits dont just pay for themselves. A less healthy population also tends to be less productive, and more taxing on the health care system as a whole.

We had a crappy form of universal health care called the Emergency Medical Treatment Act which mandated that hospitals accept any patient into the ER. It was in essence a form of extremely expensive universal health coverage for all Americans.

Instead we've now opted for a less expensive and more comprehensive (but still flawed) form of coverage with the ACA. I dont see how anyone can criticize the ACA without acknowledging how truly ****ed up the old system was. And seeing as how Republicans aren't exactly throwing out viable alternatives, this is what you get.

Yeah, I get it.... just responding to the claim that the ACA was boosting household income and spending. Seems like a misleading claim.
