I guess all that early voting paid off. Congrats guys, you win.

A New Mexico paper has declared Barack Obama the next POTUS!

The New Mexico Sun News printed the headline “Obama Wins” in its election edition on stands today, with “Special Collectors Edition” printed in bold red type.

Seems the Sun News is a bimonthly newspaper and the Oct. 26-Nov. 8 issue had to hit the streets -- and the newsstands -- before the election.

So, based on the polls, the editors made a logical leap of faith and declared Democrat Barack Obama the winner.

Explaining their choice, the editors wrote, “When it comes to calling the winner of a presidential election, everyone wants to be first. The New Mexico Sun News hereby claims that achievement.”

One one hand I can't blame them. They don't want to miss out on the fun just because their next issue won't be out until the week after the election.

On the other hand it's incredibly r****ded to print that, even if you believe it's going to happen. I think Obama's going to win too but I'm not running around telling everybody that he's already won.

This is equivalent to shaking hands after the turn at a poker game with a guy who went all in pre-flop and needs a K to make his straight to beat you. Odds are you win but there is one more card to come...

    TOO SOON!

"In its tongue-in-cheek style, the article went on to note the newspaper has a goal of reaching one million readers with each edition, but prints just 10,000 copies of each of its issues."

Do I need to explain what tongue-in-cheek means? And what exactly is the point of this? Is this a reflection of Obama being overconfident? If you really believe this and don't understand the "tongue-in-cheek", independent nature of their proclamation, then I truly feel sorry for you.

I would hope that you're making these posts on a forum that matters. Most, if not all, of us on here have already voted or are dead-set in our choice. It would be like me posting videos and articles extolling Obama's virtues-would you seriously pay attention to them? I'm a moderate who voted for Obama, and I can sincerely say that one of my reasons was not the negative campaigning- all candidates do that- but the failure of the McCain campaign and people like yourself to argue about what really matters.

You talk of conspiracies and Reverend Wrights and socialism- and you're completely missing the point. Obama has areas that are ripe for legitimate debate and argument- again, all candidates do- but you and the McCain supporters choose to attack the things that don't matter to us moderates. Do you honestly think we care about Ayers? No- read the surveys. You and the McCain supporters- a group that did influence my vote in 2000 when I voted for Bush- completely dropped the ball. You all did not understand- and to a degree, I think you still don't get it- that you didn't make enough of a case for why McCain should be the next President.

Obama provides an on-site calculator to determine tax cuts- something everyone can relate to. McCain gives us Joe the Plumber- someone that many of us do not. You and they blew it. I don't know how to say it any more stronger than that- you and they have done a thoroughly poor job of convincing us moderates as to why John is the man. Whether he is or not, at least Obama convinced me that I should take a chance and trust him. And I'm willing to give him at least 4 years on that, as will the majority of Americans on November 4. It is over. I would recommend maybe posting something about Republican candidates we should support in the other races?

Promoting McCain and driving Obama into the ground is really nothing more than a pathetic attempt in futility at this point.

I couldn't possibly spend the time putting the number of  your post deserves.

When did the d&d forum on the nations best BASKETBALL site become the place for "die hard stick up their rear political" folk who get all uppity when someone posts something that doesn't meet their standards? Do you go on your diatribes when someone posts a McCain joke? I didn't think so.

    Get over yourself.

There, I would say 6 should about do it for you. Now, thanks to you, I am completely over myself. Well, I would say that I'm about 80% over myself, probably there's about a 20% still lingering in there. I would really like to get about 90% over myself by the end of the day today, but I would be content with 85%. I would also say that my panties right now are about in a 75% wad- not completely, though, so I'm still OK there. And I would say that I have about a 65% die-hard outlook and a 73% taking-things-too-seriously perspective. So, clearly I have some work to do.

Now, as a Rockets fan, I got nothin' but love for you, my brother. As a political adversary? Nothing but respect for you for speaking your mind. It's alllllllll good.
