Going there in May to visit some friends. Any suggestions of places to go that haven't been featured at lastnightsparty.com?
I saw Yeasayer open for MGMT a few weeks ago. It was one of the best shows I had been to in the past few years. I was listening to Yeasayer's single "2080" for the past year, eagerly awaiting their full album release which came out a while back. Both Yeasayer and MGMT play SXSW. Last year at SXSW, I was talking to the guy who writes BrooklynVegan. He was live blogging from a show (New Violators). Vampire Weekend plays a few shows at SXSW this year, but I think the hype around them is too much. It might be difficult to get into their shows. I've noticed alot of great bands call themselves from Brooklyn even though they aren't originally from there. The National comes to mind.
thegary, Are you familiar with No Kids (from Vancouver)? They are going to be the next Grizzly Bear. No Kids play their very first show ever at SXSW later this week. I really love this band. http://www.myspace.com/nokidsband
i'll give 'em a listen. what i can't stop listening to is: evangelicals the evening descends --> they are from norman, ok. obvious debt owed to the lips, but also pixies, the top era cure and radiohead. love it.
