As some of you know, I live in Los Angeles. The home team here has just won the NBA Title for the third straight year, and I don't hear one damn horn!! No one is celebrating on the streets. I don't know if it is just Santa Monica or what, but I see no excitement. I remember when the Rockets won the two titles, our city rocked!! That is what true fans are about!! Today, I am proud to say that I am a Rockets fan.

At least they aren't rioting like in 2000. That was the beautiful thing about our NBA championships. The city partied (crowds of over 80,000 on Richmond Ave.), yet everyone kept their heads and didn't destroy cars, stores, et al. Of course, I HAD to be in Waco during in 1994 and 1995 -- MAN!!

No matter what, we can hold our heads high because Phil Jackson is not our coach. Go Rudy T!!!! A players coach!!! He's happy when he wins!!! Jackson is a robot.

That was the saddest display of celebration I've ever seen after winning a championship...being here in LA too, we see a few cars with Laker flags and a sign here and there...it's pretty freakin sad.

True Rocket fans can't be beat!!

Yeah...you gotta love the 10,000 Rockets fans that show up for games every night, as well as all the wonderful Rockets fans that contantly bash our two best players and want them traded

I believe that you have to consider the context to fully understand the public sentiment. This was LA's third basketball championship in a row. They have won several championships in a variety of sports throughout the years.

On the other hand, the Rockets were the city of Houston's FIRST ever major league champions. Of course the city would celebrate "harder."

Good point. That should be taken into account as well.

your robot comment is funny. Did anyone else see that NBC interview of Phil Jackson that they played during Game 1 or 2? They were talking about last year and Philly winning game 1. Phil said that his assistant coach Tex Winter came up to him during game 1 and told him "Phil you need to get up off that bench, Larry Brown is outcoaching you!" :D Very Funny stuff.

What's to be so excited about? Everyone knew they were going to win the championship. There was only one time that someone else could have maybe pulled somthign off and that was when the kings were ahead in the series but even then, everyone kind of had the feeling that the Lakers would come back.

I guess thats why L.A. has no football teams - there's no fan base.... I think it's the same in New York - they don't really care.

As for Chicago, I remember on the 5th title with Jordan the city still was wired - just as much as the first.

Same with Boston and thier 16 championships, they never got used to winning, they never took it for granted and still went wild in their last championship.

I can't wait till the Rockets do it again - Houston will go just as wild as it did the first time.... I think it will be even WILDER when the Texans or Astros when the rings.

Only reason why any sports team would be in the L.A. or N.Y area is because of AD AND MARKETING DOLLARS for being in the top two media markets.

    "Do you remember
    the time
    we had it all
You and Iiiiii" Mary J Blige

Some crazy things happened the second year to me.

I witnessed the Rockets win game 3 and 4 in person. Went to 8.0's afterwards and partied with Jerry Jones and some of the Rockets players. Anybody remember 2826(Revere). THOSE WERE THE GOOD OLD DAYS!

I don't know about being a Laker's fan; they got their own bailiwick. If this website is any indication of Rocket enthusiasm and fan base, I'd say the troops have landed and the home shores are in safe, good hands.

Concerning the Ming debacle and every which way one could possibly turn in an opinion about it, is like nothing I've seen on the internet. It's good, healthy reveling. I feel the Rockets are headed for some kind of bright future, extending the hard body banging outside the paint. Bring ot on.

I read somewhere that Phil stopped getting on his feet after he saw how Dennis Rodman fed off his energy. So he tried to be more calm and stoic to make Rodman more calm and follow the plays.

The Nets weren't worthy adversaries to the Finals. The whole WC finals series made the NBA Finals anticlimactic. But I agree that the street reaction wasn't as rowdy as I thought it could be...
