I’ll be a little surprised if he’s back I actually think this pandemic increases his chances of coming back as this season is now just 1 giant asterisk, and there’s a viable excuse if the team doesn’t get it done they looked destined for a 2nd round exit before Covid-19 hit which I have no doubt would have led to him not getting another contract
I'm inclined to agree. I think COVID-19 will lead to MDA getting a new contract (probably a short one) with the Rockets if he still want it.
Might be best if he didnt go to the games... on a couple levels... lol Let Mike do his strategery prepping the game plan for the game - and let someone else do the in game coaching... adjustments, timeouts... that might not be bad... lol
psychologically, it's kinda 7 years itch reaction, or eager to try some fresh salad after too much fried and onion strings in Landry's.
No chance in Hell he’s coming back. I’m pretty sure that ship sailed when they didn’t extend his contract and allowed him to become a lame duck. I mean I guess I shouldn’t say NO chance, but pretty damn close to it.
The lame duck status meant they have had a smaller, less accomplished coaching staff this season, too.
There is no jumping the gun on the fact that he belongs to the at risk group. He probably has to wear the mask until the vaccine is ready in a year or longer. Bane Mike D. Basically I can see him stay longer in the NBA because he is not getting the fat paycheck in this kind of economy before retirement. Will be interesting what de decides to do.
I will agree on not jumping the gun that Micky D being gone. If indeed the season resumes and the Rockets get to the finals or one game away......Mike D’Antoni may be back. But, it all hinges on cost for D’Antoni to continue. I’m of the opinion that the Rockets are kicking out names of coaches to replace D’Antoni as negotiation leverage. D’Antoni isn’t changing the offense at all and Harden/Westbrook can run it with their eyes closed. D’Antoni has rep of spending no time practicing defense.......so no need for high priced D’Antoni. If no D’Antoni at cheap rate, I see the Rockets getting little pro coaching experienced individual like when Nick Nurse came from the G-league. Cheap and a puppet coach to Harden/Westbrook......just manage the rotations and call timeouts. Players handle the rest. Edited: I’m not one for harping on Tillman being cheap (the guy is richer than me). Coaches wages do not go against the salary cap; but there is a pattern or M.O. (Method of Operation) with Tillman and his wallet. Why pay big bucks for a coach to run an offense that Harden/Westbrook can do themselves? Coach like Thibs would let Harden/Westbrook run the offense; but would cost too much to manage the defense and run the players into the ground. Bzdelik would have been a cheaper version of Thibs.
