Lately it seems to be getting out of hand.. I know we have been complaining about it all season but it seems to come in waves. Im talking about lack of respect from the officials..

I know Yao gets hacked all the time and players grab, hold, push, shove or do whatever they can get away with to contain him. He doesnt complain or whine which I like.. but it doesnt seem to earn him any extra respect (aka calls).. like a Duncan or a Pau.

Our guards also have a right to be angry and im glad Cat called them out. Even though we may get a backlash from it for awhile...

SF3's FG% has gone down not just from poor shooting but because he gets hacked alot and doesnt get calls. AI complained he doesnt get enough calls (even though hes a league leader in FTA's) because a foul is any contact that effects your shot.

Our players have complained on the court and Cat mentioned today he has been biting his tongue for half a season and couldnt take it anymore. Even though he could have probably been more diplomatic about he did the right thing.. The officiating has been pretty horrific this year. People complain about it year after year but its becoming so inconsistent which drives fans and players mad.

If you allow alot of physical contact allow it on both ends and by both teams. If they call the game tight, same thing make it consistent.

Is there anything we can do as fans to help this cause? or anything the players, coaches or management can do?

Just curious what peoples opinions are about this issue.

    I've heard people state ..

    1. we should whine and complain like other teams and players (that would get us more calls) - makes sense to me.. even though I would hate to see so many whiners on our team. But i have to admit its effective for other players and their teams (Lakers, Spurs, Mavs etc. etc.)

    2. Keep our mouths shut and keep playing the game.. which we have been doing for the most part. We havent complained as much to the media as we could have (cept for JVG talking about how Yao should start using his elbows and Cat calling out the refs) but that was about time.

    3. try to build a better relationship with the refs..

    4. Make the blow the whistle.. attacking the defense and the rim.

any other suggestions? what can we do?

Squeaky wheel gets the grease. Rockets need to make more videotapes. Mark Cuban was at the forefront a couple of years ago concerning garbage officiating. He made logs of each Mavericks game with videotapes showing where refs were screwing up. Noone messes with Cuban now.

The biggest problem with this league is the b.s. officiating. If we are to win a championship, either it will have to go in our favor or we will have to overcome it.

on a side note.. replays of the MoT dunk show him clearly getting fouled but the announcers made a note that the refs let the contact go because Mot tried to hold off the defender with his off arm.

in the rule book which was should that go? I've seen Amare use his left arm (hand) to hold defending players arm so he can still make the dunk is that legal?

Since when has the rule book ever affected NBA officiating?

Personally, I think SF and Cato in particular whine too much. I think it effects their games b/c they are concentrating on not getting the calls. Just play the game. I think all teams get some calls and lose some calls. You just notice the ones against your team more.

Well I particularly tend to notice it if it's too one-sided (like in the San Antonio game).

Not only one-sided for a team, but also one-sided for a player (like Yao). Yao gets beat on every play on the offensive side. And he tends to get called for ticky-tack fouls on the defensive end. If they let a guy beat on you at one half of the court, they d@mn well better let him return the favor on the other end.

Rox -- refs' lest favorite team
How pitiful it is! Refs treated Rox that way at their HOME.

Yao should learn from Malone, use his elbows protecting himself.

I second that one too. Swing the elbows and "accidently" knock some dude in the face. Perhaps then the defender's won't hang all over and otherwise wrestle with Yao on the post.

i wish that Yao would speak up about it 'coz david stern will listen to him due to his popularity and MARKET VALUE for the NBA. It's definite not gonna be a good thing for the nba if he got injured. hes got the power he might not know or know how to utilize it.

Are those refs professional? it seems they just graduate from high school. they don't know what the rim is, they use "step out" as make-up calls, they abuse offsensive foul and block foul at will... i'm glad Cat speaks it out, then Ray Allen follows up.

it's time for D Stern to move his ass ...

Officiating has been ridiculous for us lately. What bothers me aren't the calls per se, but their complete and total inconsistency. It's impossible to know what's legal and illegal based on how officials are calling the game. Guys get away with lowering the shoulder and charging to the basket that Yao gets called for an offensive every single game.

Also, 90% of the time Yao shoots an airball, his arm is clearly hit hard. He looks at the ref and shows the red slap and they still don't call it. Steve goes strong to the hoop and gets pushed 90% of the time and there's no call.

Man, all of a sudden I'm starting to dream about bad officiating. I had a dream about the refs calling more bad calls, mostly on Yao. The only play I can remember in is was Yao going for a rebound, but getting pulled down pretty obviously but then getting called for a foul after that. I want to say he then went crazy against the ref, which would have been pretty cool, even if it was just a dream.

The sad thing is that even though it was a dream, it is kind of likely to happen.:(

The NBA has by far the worst officiating of all the major leagues. I don't understand it - at times, it's so atrocious that one wonders if the game is "fixed."

I know officials won't get everything right, but why is it so much worse in the NBA than anywhere else?

And he has. They suspended that ref that ****ed up the 24 sec violation in the LA/DEN game for 3 games. Then these damn refs protest the decision by turning their shirts inside out and writing his number on their backs. Supposedly, the NBA's gonna fine those refs too. Finally, something is being done!
