Everyday, we hear about what the Chinese media says about Ming, the Rockets and the NBA. Does anyone here speak Slovenian?
In addition, we have a lot of people from China lurking and posting here, why have no slovenian basketball fans posted any messages on any English language basketball forum about Nachbar?

Yao Ming is the Jordan of China and was the #1 draft pick. Nachbar is just one of many talented European players. I have high hopes for Nachbar though, I think he will fit in nice with the Rockets.

nachbar is in yao mings 7'5" shadow. he will stay there all season, maybe longer. depending on how long it takes him to turn into peja.

yao ming is our 7'5" vlade
griffin is our webber in the making (with a better personality)
    nachbar is our future peja

we have the advantage in the backcourt now with sac. so there is no point in mentioning that we will have the best pg in the leage.

the kings were the best team in the leage this year (yeah. i said it! call kobes foul on bibby dont count walkers after the buzzer 3 and the kings win the west 4-2) and we will be better then they are and younger than them and the lakers.

Smoothie:- Nachbar will never be like Peja! He is a different type of player but should be just as effective. Nachbar's strong point is his drive to the basket with a big dunk, Pega's strong point is his outside shooting!

I like your analysis, but I do have one disagreement.

MING will be much better than Vlade.

Nachbar can shoot too, he hit like 22 of 25 from 3 point range in the work out for the Rockets, and 24 for 25 from something like 15 feet.

Well, it's not like Nowitzki was very popular in Germany before he broke out in America, but if you look at Mavs' message boards, they are filled with German Mavs fans.

I admit that Nachbar intrigues me. Rudy saw him make 10 dunks in a game. I don't care who you play that is wild. It takes speed to get to the the basket and make dunks. Talk about the fast break not many will be able to keep up with Kenny, Mobley and Nachbar.

    :D :D :D :D :D

How do we know Nachbar is not the second coming of Mirsad Turkscan? Were people saying the same things about Turkscan when he came out? god I hope he's better than that

I think Nachbar's success or failure is going to hinge on his ability to nail that outside shot consistently. His ability to go to the bucket will be an added bonus on fast breaks (and I hope we have a lot of them), but I don't think he is either going to be able (or needed) to create his own drives to the basket in a half-court set. From the videos of him we have seen, he has a good motor, plays hard, and has some definite skills, but those guys in that Euro league play some of the worst matador-style defense I have ever seen (even worse than the Rockets last year). I suspect that he may try early to get to the basket after the other teams' defense has set, but will get a pretty rude greeting from the beginning. Fortunately he seems more than capable of parking on the arc and nailing 3's as long as the other team will let him.. and then, when they start to come out on him, we'll have to cross our fingers that he will be able to go around and has the passing skill necessary to create a shot for someone else if he can't get his own.

If Nachbar manages to do that well, then he improves this team as much as Ming does, in his own way.

But yeah, I for one would love to hear someone from his neck of the woods contribute news and things about his character and personality.

Man November can't get here fast enough!

Actually, if I remember correctly, Turkcan's reviews were a lot better than Nachbar's. Scary!

This is a common misunderstanding. His strongsuit is pure shooting and ballhandling. What intruigued Rudy is that he had that Euro shooting, and in ADDITION to that, he dunks when he should. he can do Peja. But he's going to do better.

The question was how come he doesn't have a following, not how great he'll be.

I would also like to know where his fellow countrymen are, maybe its because he's not played exclusivedly for one team????

    possible reasons:

Basketball, internet and BBS are more popular in China.
There are much more chinese living in USA,speaking English.
#15 is not as shining as #1, Europeans don't have to notice Nachbar. They pro Dirk and Peja
Chinese love to chat ,talk, post, spread rumor, make noise, make friends, get some knowledge of American by any means.......Chinese want to show up everywhere except Middle East ......

Nachbar is like Turkoglu with an attitude...in a good way. He can shoot really well plus he can finish in traffic and on the break. Go look at the highlights Clutch put up because they're pretty impressive. He likes to dunk on the break and a defender in front of him better get out of the way or else he dunks on them as shown in the video. He plays with more enthusiasm and emotion than most Euro players, but he still has the fundamental skills. At worst he'd be a more versatile Radmanovic and at best he could be better than Peja or Turkoglu. We don't need to compare him to others just because he's European. It's natural to do so, but let him play his game and be the model to compare others to.

With all the focus on Ming, Nachbar could surprise a lot of people. He wont have a lot of pressure to perform from the national media.

No one knew about Peja when he came into the league.

    Not until he proved himself.

Boki will have to do the same.
