I think we`ve seen our rotation today: Rafer T-Mac Battier Scola Yao James Bonzi Hayes Head (Mutombo) Francis will get the minutes that Snyder got today, and will probably play when either James or Bonzi has an off night. At least it will look like that at the beginning of the season, you never know what`s going to happen with injuries/trades etc.
Because you can't trade Steve. He took less money and just signed - trading a guy who signs with your team in the first year doesn't speak very well to how you treat your FA's. Thinking back, maybe trading Rafer would be the best bet.. or combining Rafer and Head to get another quality player.. although I don't even know what position we need depth at, at this point..
Exactly on the spot about FA. If we trade our FA who took a major cut to get in our team, what will other big FA think about our team? I don't agree with rafer though. I think we should trade either james or head, not both.
Derek Anderson? Stromile Swift? (Ok Stro was traded in the offseason but still didn't make it to 2nd year with Rox) point is Steve can be traded if this doesn't work out, Adelman can just have a one on one talk with him and tell him this isn't working out, you're not getting into my rotation, what team would you like to go to...
I love steve, but I think your right. I think he should have signed with a team that would actually give him a chance.
I couldn't agree more. Steve will not ride the bench for his hometown team willingly. He gonna say he didn't sign up for this and it could cause all kinds of tension this season.
Hey Steve knows what he has to do to crack this rotation. He needs to stop his high incidence of "sorry m'bads" and start playing Adelman ball. That means making the hard cuts. Positioning himself in the offense where he needs to be and making good decisions. Maybe he's struggling right now but by December I fully expect Francis to get it and start balling Stevie Franchise style.
if steve doesn't earn a spot in the rotation he will be professional about it. in new york he didn't complain about being benched, then losing his spot in the rotation for a period of time. he is worth keeping around in case of injury, but if he decides to ask for a trade so be it. we have plenty of pieces with which to package him. snyder, reed, butler, and sura can all be sent with steve for a rotation player.
I think when SF signed with ROX, he got some promised minutes, at least in the rotation. As I said before, dont be too surprised when you see 10-man rotation before Christmas.
Steve will get minutes if he deserves them. This isn't kids basketball where everyone gets a chance to play. I also don't think it says anything bad about the front office if he doesn't get a lot of minutes. Players in the NBA know when someone's lost it. Tracy even said it when he first heard that Steve signed with the Rockets. He said that after what everything that Steve has been through from being the Franchise player to the back of the bench, if he isn't humble now then he has some issues.
I understand the idea of a rotation but I think that by not using all of our players when we have this much talent is stupid. Why not give all 12 some time if all 12 can help the team?
I agree with you that we do have a lot of talent on this team, but I dont agree with playing all 12 players that suit up. Maybe in the event of a blowout I can see all 12 getting some minutes, but in a close game no thats what a rotation is for. Hate to say it but you are going to have injuries which every team has, so some of the other players will get a chance to play too. Plus there is also something called chemistry. Just because you have the most talent does not make you the better team. You have to go with what works and as someone else said earlier this is not middle school basketball. So I'm confident near the end of April that we will go with our best players.
Yeah you're right. I just feel bad sometimes seein really talented guys with a DNP next to their name.
Head and Francis can share that 9th spot. They can be interchangable by the game. This would be good for Francis' health (knees) and good for Head since he is a player that is pretty much limited in his abilities somewhat. If Bonzi happens to get hurt we got Synder, Francis, Head or whoever is left who could jump in. People will get hurt (I mean have minor injuries) so others will be in the rotation... like Adelman said nothing is written in stone. AB and Landry may see time in blow outs or certain matchups. Players coming to this team should have been aware before they signed imo.
In soccer its actually quite common, to play different people on different nights, to give the others a rest. So with a team this loaded we could easily play an 8-9 men rotation, and always sit out somebody else. This way the players are less likely to injure themselves, and they will be in better condition come playoff time. I don`t understand why you don`t go like that, when you have "too much" quality guys.
Most players need certain amount of minutes to be effective. And the more players involved, the harder to maintain chemistry and consistency. Hubie Brown is the only NBA coach I know who uses a 10-man rotation. Most coaches use 8-9 guys when the team is healthy.
