I was listening to 610 and they said Morey loves Fazekas. Matt thinks the Roxs will move up and take a PF. He mentioned Thaddeus Young. He said if the Roxs stay at 26 they would take Fazekas. Why are we considering taking Fazekas when we need ATHLETISIM. Him and Yao on the court would make us even slower. I rather take Glen Davis than Nick Fazekas. Here is Fazekas profile, http://www.nbadraft.net/admincp/profiles/nickfazekas.html http://draftexpress.com/viewprofile.php?p=175 http://www.collegehoopsnet.com/new/story/nick_fazekas_nba_draft_profile27953
Man Morey needs to stop being so in love with these "moneyball" players. We need a TOUGH PF and Fazekas runs around with a limp wrist.
I'd rather get an athletic 4 that can run the floor well and finish at the hoop. Sean Williams or Big Baby are better options than Fazekas.
What about Nick Fazekas other than he has a good outside shot reminds you of Langhi? Both white? They don't even play the same position...Langhi was a small forward. Fazekas has been hands down the best college Power Forward this past season. Check out the comparison stats: http://www.draftexpress.com/viewarticle.php?a=2128 Fazekas leads all Power Forwards in: Points per Game Points per Possession Player Efficiancy Rating Efficancy Efficiancy per 40 minutes Wins per 40 minutes Fezekas was 2nd among all Power Forwards in: Rebounds per Game at 14.5 more than Noah, Horford or Wright (Not bad for a guy with no athleticism.) Blocks per Game 2.0 (only .8 behind Noah, .6 behind Horford and .3 behind Wright) Blocks per Foul .65 which is just slightly less than Noah, Horford. The guy is not built like Langhi, Novak or some twig. He has a legit Power Forward frame. For someone that is suppose to not be very athletic he sure rebounds and blocks shots well. At 6'11" he has excellent hieght for a PF. I am sure glad we did not pass on Yao Ming for his lack of atheleticism. I think Fazekas would fit extreamly well in ...maybe perfect in Adelmans high post offense. And he rebounds well enough and blocks shots well enough that IMO he would be just fine in a zone defense. No he is not going to stop Boozer or Duncan but who is going to stop those guys?
Yao Ming has world class talent and game even with his shortcomings. Fazekas is a nice player but the Rockets need a quicker and more athletic player who can bang a bit too to help Yao out IMO.
I'm trying to figure out how Nick Fazekas averaged nearly 15 rebounds per 40 minutes without actually banging anyone. One thing I've often read from basketball people is that rebounding, of all the skills, carries over from college to the pros. There just seem to be something about a guy having a nose for the ball that allows him to do it even without incredible body or atheleticism... and on the other hand, there are plenty of guys who have the right body, but never rebounds very well (see Swift, Stromile).
Rebounding is about determination and timing as much as anything. If Fazekas has good timing like he must and has a strong desire to get to the ball and understands position he can get rebounds. And the guy played for Arizona which is no slouch of a school when it comes to basketball. The guy is a highly skilled basketball player that gets a bad rap because he does not have the freakish athleticism that a Sean Williams has but picking Williams over Fazeka is very huge risk. What are the odds that someone like Williams turns his life around? 30%? 20%? Sure it could happen but it's a long shot at best. Give me Fazeka any day.
Fazekas played for Nevada. Used to be teammates with Kirk Snyder, actually, when they made a Sweet 16 run.
Take a look at the handle...I am from Reno (although I spent some time in Cali and have recently moved back to Reno) and IMO Fazekas is a waste. Yes he has some impressive stats, but if you are 6'11 PF playing the WAC you should be dominating. He disappears when it matters most. Nothing against TMac or Yao, but if you thought they disappeared during the Utah series Fazekas takes the cake in that category. I don't have the stats and perhaps some of you that are more resourceful/interested in him can find the stats for regular season and tournament play I am almost positive there is a huge discrepancy. Living in Reno, this guy is pretty much the closest thing we have to a celebrity athelete and I get slack every time for not thinking he is greatest basketball player to play the game.
I don't know a whole lot about Fazekas. The question I have, is does he duplicate Novak? It kind of sounds like Fazekas is more like Troy Murphy. Is that the best NBA comparision? Someone mentioned the Rockets moving up for Thaddeus Young. Very interesting prospect with a high ceiling!
Murphy is more athletic. Here is his profile when he was coming out of college to the draft. http://nbadraft.net/profiles/troymurphy.htm
Novak and Fazekas are two entirely different players, IMO. Novak, despite being 6'9" and having the height of a PF, has always played out on the perimeter more like a guard. Fazekas is your traditional, low-post, dominating, 20/10 PF. Fazekas may have put his numbers up against a bunch of nobody's but I still like the package of size, smarts, range and rebounding that he brings. I think he's better than Novak and not necessarily a home run pick if we took him, but definitely a safe if we're looking at adding players that could potentially contribute right away. Deuce, I like the Troy Murphy comparison, although as somebody already pointed out, Murphy is probably more athletic.
In the past I able to play in many pickup games with and against Jeff Foster right after he finished his senior year at Southwest Texas State. I never thought he would turn out to be the rebounder in the NBA like he is today. He just didnt wow me with freakish athletism. Was I wrong. The guy just has a natural nose for the ball and thats something you can't teach. If Fazekas can grab 11 boards in the WAC or any other conference for matter, he definetly has a nose for the ball and can probably rebound with anybody.
Novak is a 3/4 while Fazekas is a 4/5 that has a history of being a rebounder. In the PF poll I went with 1.Splitter and Fazekas a close 2nd choise.
IIRC, Splitter's buyout still is quite high -- he might not be able to join an NBA team until the season after the one coming up.
can't go wrong with a big guy who can rebound and shoot in adelman's offence. i'm still hoping the pick gets packaged in a deal for a known commodity.
I'm not positive but I believe Nevada won the WAC 4 years in a row... thats dominating This is a concern, I would like to see evidence of this. With Morey being the stat guy that he is I bet he has these stats.
