vick is amazing if he's on, and he's been on so far this year. but he can be fairly inconsistent with his passing. so far so good, but he won't be this good all the time, if you go by his career.
Certainly, looking at them now and given Vick's experience. But VY's passer rating last year is better than Vick had for any season in Atlanta. VY's career completion % is better than any single season Vick had in Atlanta. And these aren't complemints to Vince. Vince, as mediocre a passer as he has been thus far, has been better than anything we saw from Vick until these last few games in terms of the passing game. What made Vick special going back to his Atlanta days was his ground ability. Vince will never get close to 1000 yards rushing as Vick did - as you said, he's a different breed of runner. Outside of the fact that they are black and both high QB picks, there's simply no good reason to compare the two because they are totally different types of players - different strengths, different weaknesses, different types of games. Hopefully Vick has turned a corner in terms of the passing game, but if so, it happened 10 years after he got drafted, making it again a weird comparison to Vince.
The one thing that hasn't been mentioned yet in regards to Vick's consistency and questioning if he can keep his performance up is that he's never really had any good receivers to throw to. His best receivers over his career up until this point have been the likes of Alge Crumpler (TE), Warrick Dunn (RB) and traditional WR's such as Peerless Price and Brian Finneran. Jackson, Maclin and Celek are the best receivers he's EVER had. If the line can hold up and McCoy continues to improve Vick may have an epic year.
This was discussed in the other thread about Vick, maybe the Week 2 thread. As I said... You give Vick a couple of speed demons like Jackson and Maclin who can get open with speed... Vick buys enough time, its pick your poison.
Yeah, I mentioned it in this post: http://bbs.clutchfans.net/showpost.php?p=5584504&postcount=302 The defenses these guys face should get stiffer after this week, or at least I thought but Washington, Dallas and New York look pretty bad. The Eagles might just win the division if they keep this up. One thing that does worry me is the amount of contact Vick takes. I'm not sure how much he took in Atlanta but you have to wonder after sacks, hits, runs, etc how long he can last.
people have been saying that since he came in the NFL...and it's a legit concern. he got hit more times yesterday than the running back. but he's playing better than i've ever seen him play before...and far better than i imagined he'd play.
Was just listening to Mortensen and he was talking about Mike Vick's financial situation. Even though he's due to make 5+ million this year, apparently all but 300k of it goes directly back to creditors and other institutions he owes money to (including the Falcons. Dude is basically playing himself out of debt in hopes of landing one more massive NFL contract. I'd almost like to see him do it.
that is pretty crazy well it would be good if he was able to he has a little less wear and tear on his legs than other qbs the same age. i would love to see him do it because at least to me he has been a top 3 athlete for me to watch in the NFL in the last decade (tomlinson and faulk being the other 2)
Just to digress from the usual VY & MVick discussions... Watching bears vs vikings and damn... Aaron Rogers is pretty damn good (i know, duh). Havent watched him played since early last season, but the guy is very accurate, precise and confident with his passes, not to mention great in and out of the pocket. Jay Cutler on the other hand, looks alot like a Brett Farve when his isnt his best. Impressive arm with some accuracy but dangerous throws and bad decisions. However Cutler does look alot better than he did at any point last year,
I don't like it, I know its cliché but if you can't get half a yard running the ball then you don't deserve to win.
Or you're the Chicago Bears and you have no running game to begin with and now Mike Martz is your OC. First Michael Vick and now Devin Hester is returning punts for TDs? It really is 2006 all over again.
When you break your leg and lose your job only to regain it through hard work then it's feel good however when you get thrown in jail for doing something beyond stupid and have to pay back all the people you screwed over by getting your brain smashed...I call that justice.
Along with Peyton Hillis this has gotta be the best Week of football by white running backs since like... the 1980s.
