I was reading the article in SI (or was it Time Magazine?) and they had this small section for LeBron James right under the article of Yao Ming. Just curious to what you guys think, well LeBron James have a bigger impact than Yao Ming in his rookie season? He sure is getting ALOT more attention than Yao was BEFORE the NBA-Draft.
Poor LeBron. Kid will be over-hyped going into the season. Then by game #25, after he has had a chance to get abused by the likes of Kobe, Allan Houston, Eddie Jones, Cuttino, Mike Finley, etc., he will see just how hard it is to play in the NBA. I feel bad for him because he will get a lot of the hype that Yao gets, (although not the World-wide attention), and it will be tough for him to live up to that. The American media likes to set people up to fail like that. He will be a player, but like Yao, it will not be for a couple of years.
LeBron will probably be pretty damn good. He'll probably get more hype because people in America watch more NBA then the rest of the world combined.
really, how many times have you seen lebron play? the more you see him, the more flaws in his game you see.
He's 18. He's got a great NBA body. He can pass. He's VERY athletic. He has 4 years to work on flaws, and then another 3 to work on being the best. This guys has 2 years on Amare Stoudamire. At this age, all you need is a great body and a good mentality. NBA coaching will take care of everything else. Basically, they will mold you into whatever the team needs.
dont be surprised if he goes out and gets 20 a night i think he will atleast get 15 a night and 5 ast. the main thing is there will be so much media that what ever team drafts him will be forced to play him and get him the ball even if they dont really want to.
Hey "The Fever", after seeing Yao Ming prove his naysayers wrong why do you doubt James's ability? People before the seaon were saying that Yao can't bang with the big boys in the NBA, and now he's a top center. Just because James gets a lot of hype, people want to see him fail. It was the EXACT SAME situation with Yao. The most people have seen of LeBron is probably three games. Three games, that's it. If people saw only Kobe's last 3 games they'd think he's the Greatest of all Time. People get to see more of him. they know he has a long way to go to reach Jordan. Truth is, nobody knows if he's overhyped.
No one knows how great LeBron James will be, but he won't get the same media attention that Yao's gotten this year. Seriously, every frickin' SportsCenter on a night the Rockets play advertises Yao highlights. Everybody wants their Yao fix. The center position in the NBA is relatively depleted, so a big guy like Yao can step in and make a huge splash. By contrast, LeBron will probably play the 2 or 3, and the NBA is loaded with talented guys at those positions. Can he compete with Kobe, Tracy, Vince, AI, Francis? Not anytime soon. The attention will stay on these stars. The folks who predict that LeBron will be a starter in the All Star game next year are wrong.
This boy needs a chance to breath and progress. The adults arround him should step back and let it happen!
You are right, but not only is that not going to happen but it will get worse with the money. If I had a choice, I would rather have Carmelo Anthony then James. I think he will become a better NBA player, better all around game and without the baggage.
I have watched King James play twice and I came away very impressed. However, he won't hit the ground running in NBA as some analysts seem to suggest. Just look at Kobe. It took him 2 years to get going.

I guess it all depends on how Lebron (and his mom?) handles the hype. If he has the same maturity (and the same good mom) as Yao, then he'll be very good. Or else. . . We'll see.
