brad had another solid game last night, certainly another boost to his stock

Mills is probably the only boomer to make more of an impact on their NBA chance

although another local Adelaide boy certainly made a big impact in garbage time last night.... a great cameo from JIngles, with 3 3s from NBA range and then a nice dunk... well done Joe.......for me if he can add a little more size (right now he is skinnier than Prince), Jingles length gives him more of chance in the NBA

I got no problem with Brad either, but I do have a problem with your Caps Lock key.

    I believe it's stuck.

Not sure on that one - for Newley playing in the NBA is an absolute dream. Most Aussies would just LOVE to make an NBA roster and get playing time. Considering the NBA minimum salary for a second year player is larger than the entire salary cap for an Aussie team, you can see why minimum salary might be appealing.

The Greeks could certainly offer him more than NBA minimum, but if he got the offer of playing NBA, he'd jump at it - it's about the passion to play in the big league.

    It's only 12 inches closer...

And it's not really a moot point because finishing is what you do when you get past your man and into the lane.

I'd rather Newley at 450k than Head at $1.9mill (or, if it's next offseason, Newley at 450k over Head's qualifying of about 2.6mill  )

Boozer grabbed the guys arm and slung him to the floor. Gaze didn't have a problem with that.
What he had a problem with was that Boozer didn't offer him a hand to help him up - but gave him a stare on the floor.

His comment was "this is why the American team has a bad name"

And it's true. Some of the players (not many in this current squad) carry on like a pack of galahs... So no matter how much PR they put in off the court, their attitudes ON the court make them look like bad sports.

Winning by 30, give away a cheap foul - why not help the guy up?
I'm certain Kobe/ Prince/ Howard would all have offered their hand.

Boozer glares and walks away - wow.. he's so tough! He's a real hero

And why shouldn't the Aussies talk crap back to the Americans when they get crap talked at them? Sure they can't play basketball as well, but looks like they can run their mouths just as well. They know they lost, they know the Americans are much better - but doesn't mean they have to 'assume the position' does it...

He wont b e $450K and if you look at how far out the USA Guards stand its acutally a fair representation, where Newley is starting his current drives his starting inside the NBA 3pt line if you think about it. All his catch and shoot shots have to be readjusted too. I still think I would take Head over him. I think Newley would cost the same price as Newley aroudn $1.5 mil to $2 mil

No they like giving it back too. Im pretty sure noone bothered to go check if Carmelo was ok after they hammerred him after the free throw offensive rebound and then consequently didn't even go for the block and just hammered his arm. The Australia talk alot of crap like that and they don't back it up either with their own actions. I think the American's can do whatever they like especially if they aren't the ones dealing out the "hard" fouls. IF your going to deal out hard fouls your allowed to cop as much crap as you get.

Especially if you have to deal out hard fouls cause you didn't box out properly

After watching Newley play against the US squad, I'm pretty sure he can crack someone's rotation. He was very active, able to drive to the basket, put up a couple of 3's, defend Kobe pretty well and most impressive - rebound. I saw one play where he flew in while everyone else was standing there mesmerized and grab the re and made a great pass. His vision is really good too. I hope he gets a chance in a year or two.

    peace

Not to derail the thread, but the Aussies (not all, but some) were playing pretty dirty in that game. I generally hate poor sportsmanship, and the the teams of 2000, 20002 WC, 2004 were full of guys that were very hard to cheer for. While I do understand that the PR machine has been in full effect this year, the team has very noticeably done a very good of representing the U.S.

I hate Boozer as much as any Rocket fan should (which is a lot), but I'll give him a pass on that play because the Aussies were playing dirty all game. There's hard fouling playoff style as a message to prevent penetration, and then there's hard fouling because you suck so you just want to take out your aggression on the other team and hopefully sucker someone into a fight. The Aussies (again not all) were doing a lot of the 2nd type of hard fouling, which is bush league. Team USA of 2004 might have thrown some punches, which would have even be justified considering the bush-league tactics, but I'm proud of the way this year's team handled it. Boozer gets one pass and that is it.

As for Newley, he was awesome and I hope he joins the Rockets someday soon.

Oh I totally agree, Its ok for the Aussies to foul hard when they've lost the man and try to make up for their total lack of ability, but its not ok for the other team to react to your hard foul cause you can't defend.

Thats atypical Australian for you and it pisses me off in a way. Lucky Newley doesn't carry on in this manner

a newley update in the local paper today - the advertiser

    Newley talked about
    * had a little bit of a chat to the rockets
    * expects his agent to have more conversations with them
    * heads back to greece next week and looking forward to another good season and then move on from there to the NBA
    * it was great to be able to play against the USA team/NBA star players
    * "you play basketball for respect and at the end of the game the guys were saying 'hopefully we see you playing with us one day' and that kind of thing"
    * individually there were good parts to the game but the team didn't get the result they wanted, at least top 8 was an improvement on Athens
