Yes - did mean you; didn't realise there was a Capitalised version on Clutchfans aswell..

Where is the person who was talking about the 2003 NRL Finals mentioning Penrith and Luke Rooney?... If you're reading this - are you from Penrith?..

Also... I've got $900 riding on the game tonight...
I want America to win but i just want over 189.5 points scored.

What happened to shane heal? I remember him lighting up dream team and getting a contract from minny and couldn't do squat.

his retired, the core of the Australia team is still pretty much the same, Bruton, Neilson, Anstey, Anderson and Smith (whos is injured and not selected).
Newley, Bogut, Mills and Ingles are fairly new to the mix for the team itself.

So here it goes, I've been watching Newley and Newley only for the second quarter

    Goods:
Gets a drive and a And 1 on a pick and roll with Bogut, Bosh doesn't roll leaves Kobe for dead

Gets a drive in misses the lay up despite getting contact then two steps, two foul shots made.

Hits a deep three on Kobe

    Bad:

Lets Kobe blow straight by him for a dunk
Lets Kobe gets two offensive rebounds in dying regulation time
Doesn't come back on the break, lets Mills get murdered on the fast break.
Loses Kobe on a screen and roll for a open jumper.

Overall a fair performance, I liked his deep deep three on Kobe and his two aggressive drives. Overall his defence has been crap especially on the defensive boards area. But then the whole Australian team has been sucking for rebounds.

He hasn't shot any deep threes and I am yet to be convinced he can hit those deep deep threes at NBA range at a good %. His lost his man off the dribble a couple of times and his gotton his drives off the pick and roll where the USA are struggling to defend. Ill watch the third and come back.

    Third Quarter

Newley hands on Kobe foul. And then next play lets Kobe bury a 3pter open shot.

Drives off a screen is met by Howard at the post dishes (smart play)

Plays good D on kobe then Loses Kobe on a screen then doesn't follow his man off the pick.

Loses Kobe completely by himself for a Open 3 to Kobe

Misses a DEEP 3(read NBA 3) with Kobe close by

Drives and does a nice dish that doens't stick to Anstey

Drives on Lebron and Lebron hacks him before he even gets close to the basket. hits both free throws.

I think thats it for him this quarter. Not as good as his others and to be fair in the NBA there won't be a guy marking him called Kobe Bryant. BUT watching him gave me food for thought. You guys are clamouring all over Newley the dude is not a three in the NBA his a two. And guess what we have a two that does exactly what he does already and proven that he can do it. His called Luther Head. What exactly does Newley provide over Luther? I can't find it.

And on a side note Im Australia I live in Sydney and I've never lived in the USA. I absolutely hate some of the Australian team. Like that scrap they got into with Lebron after the free throw foul they did on Carmelo. They talk way too much trash. If they didn't let Carmelo get the rebound they wouldn't be in this problem where they had to foul him hard. Talk less and rebound the ball.

    Thanks for your sharp observation!
He is able to do well as 3rd or 4th point guard in our team, I think.

I think he missed 3 open 3s from the same spot in the 4th!

It wasn't his best game - but I still think he's got what it takes to be a 3rd string 2!

I concur - with the last statement - of hating the team.

Mark Worthington - who is this guy?
Acts tough - but can't back it up with his play.

And Andrew Gaze - is he the worst commentator of all time?
Applauding Worthington and the Aussies for not backing down and committing the hard foul showing the US they mean business..

But Boozer's 'hard' foul at the end of the game where he slapped the ball out of some guy's hands..
Gaze wouldn't shut up about how it isn't good for the Americans that they still have that punk attitude no need for that type of foul in the game etc etc.

I'm Australian - and it's the attitude of our player's that makes me loath them so.

Gaze - shut the ***** up.

Worthington - you're not good - sit the ***** on the bench.

Bogut - if you weren't 7 foot you wouldn't be in the NBA so shut the ***** up about NBA players you punk.

    End rant..

You said what now about Andrew Gaze?

Gaze is a living legend and he can say whatever the hell he likes. He can do no wrong.

He represents all that is Australian Basketball.

I myself have toured the USA with Andrew and let me tell you, he is even more genuinely nice and classier than he appears on TV etc.

He is just a champion in every way.

Don't take what i said as hating him personally - i am aware how much of a great individual he is.

I am however tired of the ridiculously bias commentating he dishes out.

I muted parts of the game last night it was that bad.
And unfortunately i have to listen to it for another game atleast.

Don't hate him as a person - hate his commentating.

He is bigger stronger and a better finisher than Luther.... we know Luther is all that he can be, but Newley seems to be getting better.....

Newley still needs to stay in europe. he needs to work on he's ball hadeling skills a little more and become a better rebonder. but you cant fault he's defense and ability to create a shot for himself. the way he schooled kobe on that three was great. he will be on our bench within the next two to three years.

Andrew Gaze can say whatever he likes when it involves the Boomers. He represented them at FIVE olympic games and is the second all time point scorer at the olympics.

This guy is the best Australian basketbll player to ever live.

The bottom line is rocketfish, being a FIVE time olympic veteran and the best basketball player from Australia doesn't translate into a great commentator.

    See Barkley, Charles.

I'm just not quite grasping the idea that just because he's talented he has the right to say utter garbage.

If newley is just going to be a 3rd string 2 then Rockets won't have the money to convince him to come over rather than play in europe. Thats just how it is now. Only euros that come over should be starters or 6th men.

An interesting point, and sadly probably true.

Why take less to be an end of the bench player when you can make more, play fewer games and be one of the primary players.

For a 3rd string SG i am more then happy with Luther Head. Newley is stronger then Luther but he doesn't seem to be able to finish better then him. Remember this is all a moot point because his beginning his offence alot closer to the basket then in NBA offences.
