Not sure if this has beenposted. 1. Teen Drivers: Effective September 1, 2009, the laws for teenage drivers are getting tougher. Drivers younger than 18 are banned from using cell phones while driving (dialing, talking, texting) and total hours of behind-the-wheel driving instruction a teen receives is increasing from 14 to 34 before getting a license. 2. Driving in a School Zone: Effective September 1, 2009, the use of a wireless device within a reduced-speed school zone is prohibited . Cellular phones may be used while the vehicle is stopped in a school zone or with a hands-free device. The law also applies to bus drivers. Violators are subject to a fine of up to $200. Note: Cities or counties wanting to enforce this law must post a sign at the beginning of each school zone to inform drivers that using a wireless communications device is prohibited and the operator is subject to a fine. THE SIGNS ARE UP IN SOME AREAS! 3. Seat Belts: Effective September 1, 2009, all occupants of a vehicle, no matter their age, front and back seat, must wear seatbelts.
Did not know this. Thanks for the heads-up. Personally, I'm glad to see more stringent laws regarding driving safety. I think most people grossly underestimate how dangerous driving can be.
FYI - found a complete list of new revisions to the law: http://www.insurancejournal.com/news/southcentral/2009/08/12/102968.htm Thanks again, OP.
Just more reasons for cops to pull people over. BTW, I was given the ticket when my friend wasn't wearing his seatbelt. I find it ridiculous that I have the responsibility of making sure everyone is belted in. But the kid's laws? They're fine. Screw 'em.
Oh wow YOU get the ticket and not THEM. That is ridiculous. It should be the person who is not wearing the seatbelt who gets the ticket unless the person is under 13, then whomever is watching them.
I third this... Wasn't #2 only applied to Sugar Land though? I haven't looked at it on the web, but I watch the news every morning, and I heard the anchor report that it was the city of Sugar Land that was doing this.... Can someone clarify? EDIT: Never mind.... Found this on the Sugar Land website... They were probably just mentioning the website or something where the new law was posted... It's a good deal though... I guess it'll help out people to be more aware of their surroundings. http://sugarlandtx.gov/tools/np/program/view.asp?ID=12023 #3 should have been done a long time ago.... way past due... #1... I don't really care about since it doesn't really apply to me. EDIT: I'd also like to add that they should add a minimum speed limit to our freeways.... I'm tired of idiots driving slow... especially on the left lanes.. it's mainly old people... DO IT LIKE FLORIDA!
In addition to teenagers and women, this one needs to be extended to all booty call-bound dudes driving buzzed and sporting a half-mast.
Didn't think of that.....that's interesting, because it could be interpreted everyone in the vehicle has to be wearing a seatbelt - including those in a truck bed.
this whole thing is a ****ing joke, just a way for the gov't to get into our personal lives. I totally understand 1&2 but #3 is ridiculous. its just a way for them to make money, theres no law that motorcylist have to ride a helmet? wtf is that ****, if they really care about safety then that would be the number 1 rule. its all bull****. and even passengers in the back have to wear a seatbelt now? srsly?
Not a big fan of the seat belt rule. I always wear a seat belt whenever I am in the car, but there are times when I prefer to not wear one. Keep that the way it is. As I understand, the status quo requires driver and passenger to wear the seat belt as well as those in the back seat under 13. No need to change that. I agree with the other changes, though.
Arkansas just passed a law stating that drivers younger than 18 cannot drive later than 11:00 PM. I'm sorry but that is a big crock of ****!
Well if they are out after that time and or have a cigarette on them they can be jailed anyway. If I was a teen and this curfew stuff was going on, there would be protests / riots.
