That is a great deal, IMHO...I was looking earler on CicuitCity and they have old time rear projection TV's (not DLP's) for $899...This is about what I"m looking to spend as well as I already have a LCD in my bedroom and don't want to drill holes in my living room because of the angle...
let me know if you get it, i'm seeing what offers i have on my current tv to see if i'll go ahead with buying this one.
Well, now I’m more confused ……………..then when I started. Kinda digging the Samsung 50” rear projection from TigerDirect for $ 849.99 Or the RCA Walmart special for R52WH74 for $ 894.00 Both rear projection…………????????? What do ya think guys?
SAMSUNG > RCA its not the gigantic rear projection of old, its DLP, so it weights about 70 pounds and 14inches deep compared to 23inches and 150 pounds look at the specs: R52WH74 Product Dimensions (L x W x H): HxWxD - 51.75 x 48.75 x 22.75 Product Weight: 153.1/180.9 Samsung HL-R5067W Unit Dimensions (WxHxD) 46.54" x 34.25" x 14.00" Unit Weight 72.8 lbs. plus the DLP is a table top (u can get a stand and put your components below it), the RCA is a stand alone. vs
I would never buy an RCA again. I bought a ProScan of theirs that died after a measley 7 or so years. Bah! I'd never buy a tv I can't see first. Well, ok, maybe I would, but... one of those tv's posted has a 800:1 contrast ratio. That's kind of low by today's standards (many are 1000 or 3000:1 and higher now, if you believe the specs). Another thing I'd never do is buy a big tv that seems cheap as hell compared to other tv's in its class. Unless it's a closeout or "last year's model", you may be getting burned on some ancient tv. I'm hoping they bring out laser tv's soon... I could use one in my geek room.
RCA was owned by French company Thompson and now Thompson's TV line is owned by a Chinese company, TCL. It's no surprise that its brand has been ravished by its quality. Also, one of their DLPs broke on me within a year.
i actually bought a RCA Scenium HDTV then returned in two days for my Toshiba Cinema Series, the Toshiba was so much nicer in every aspect.
RCA was sucky even when Thompson owned them. I don't think TCL took over until about 2 or 3 years ago. ProScan was actually a good higher-end brand from RCA. RCA itself sucks, for the most part.
Thanks for all the help guys, I went with the Samsung HL-R5067W 50" from TigerDriect for $ 849.99 total ( No shipping cost ) I'll post a review later. Thanks again. Jack
Don't know yet, guess they have to process it or something. Now I gotta go find a freaking stand..........
I have a 50" Toshiba Rear-Projection that I got for about $1300 4 years ago and it looks just as good as my brother in laws DLP rear projection, but some rear projections look terrible. You really have to look at it if it is not DLP (or similar) technology, but I think you could probably get a damn good rear-projection somewhere for about $800.
Same here ... the way I see it is you either always buy the extended warranty or you never buy it. By the time something breaks, I figure its probably cheaper to completely buy a brand new item than to have paid for extended warranties on all your different products over the years. Its almost like a gamble, but the manufacturers would not offer the extended warranty if they didn't have a good advantage.
No, didn't call..............( Man Tinman, your worse than my kids, My order status says something about pending review, guess they are going to verify i'm who i say i am.
