I purchased and got a Rio Volt yesterday. It is a personal CD player that plays CDs burned with MP3 and WMA files in addition to regular CD's. This allows you to burn 12-15 albums onto one CD. I think they are currently only available through the Rio home page (www.riohome.com). It runs around $160.00. So far so good. Incidentally, it reads both CD-R and CD-RW and has 120 second skip protection for CDs with MP3/WMA files. The firmware is upgradeable if other music types evolve. ------------------
I've wanted to buy a mp3 cd player for the longest, but none of them really have the features I wanted. I'm still looking for one with an FM tuner built into it as well as ID3 tags. Oh, and it has to be made by a "real" manufacturer rather than the unknown generic-sounding manufacturers I keep reading about. Yeah, there are a few of the MP3 CD players on the market. The "name brand" manufacturers are kind of late getting into the game, but companies like Phillips, Kenwood, are starting to pave the way. The AIWA is surprisingly affordable. Crutchfield has it for 300 bucks! Not sure about all the particulars or specs. THere's also something about having to record MP3's with a 3 digit number format, 001, 002, etc...? Check out epinions.comfor feedback on this unit! There are two MP3 players that I know of that have FM tuners. One is from Creative Labs (those sound/gfx card guys) called the Nomad II MG. Supposedly one of the MP3 devices. Intel just released theirs Pocket Concert. The only problem is that these players are limited to 128 megs (64 on the nomad, unless u spring for the flash card which is pretty expensive). If it's "unlimited" space you're after, check out the Nomad Jukebox w/ 6 gigs (yes, GIGS) but that costs in upwards of $400, and no FM tuner.

Do you just mean a discman? My Sony Discman has a FM tuner and is able to play Rewrrited cd's. ------------------ Never Underestimate the Heart of a Champion
No no no... I'm talking about a player that plays cd's that have over 100-150 mp3's on them. They're stored as mp3's on the disc. Imagine playing 8-10 or more HOURS of music from one disc. Plus at least an FM tuner on it so you can switch to radio when you want. That's what I'm looking for. Players that use RAM to store MP3's such as the Nomad don't do much for me. You put about an hour or 2 worth of songs on there and then what? You have to load more songs on there. How is that any different from me loading a new CD? Heck, at least with a new CD, I can carry a stack of those around with me. To reload that mp3 player, I need to be near a PC (in most cases). It's LESS efficient than a CD player in that respect -- a step backwards. I personally think those type of mp3 players are nothing but hype.
