What do ya think? http://www.apple.com/ipod/ I still think I'm leaning towards the Neuros, and will probably place my order for a Neuros sometime today.
Hey, DoD, may I take your thread on a side-road for a minute? I am looking to set up my 79 YO widowed Mom with some kind of computer that she can use to send email and maybe even message her 20+ descendants who are computer literate. She is not. She may surf the net some. She is fairly intimidated by the technology so I'm looking for the simplest solution. Any ideas? Anyone?
I think my ipod is one of the best mp3 players I've had, but it took me two whole weeks to get it set up. I had to buy 2 different firewire cards before my computer would even recognize it. Ughhh. But alas, it's been great in terms of performance. No problems whatsoever. I'm actually very impressed. and I've run into all kinds of problems with other mp3 players. I don't like the Archos and anything related to it. They suck. I'm sure the new IPOD is even better. I'm a fan now.
Ipods will be the standard in three years. They are light years ahead of anything else. 30 GB? sheesh. And no small point is the music store in Itunes. Anyone tried that yet? Awesome. Most logical compromise to the piracy/copying issue yet, and it works. Damn. Get your Mom and Imac, those guys are right. My wife's 80 year old grandmother is very comfortable with hers, doing finances and greeting cards and email. Go for it for sure. CBFC
It's not very often that you can say "I'm damn proud I worked for company X" especially if it is a Fortune 500 company. I am super proud of that company for it's innovations, forward thinking, and over all laid back managerial style. Any job in tech support is gonna suck, but that job was the closest you can get to tech support nirvana that I know of. Apple freakin' rocks, I just wish all you Winblows users would figure that out already. Maybe the iPod will help with that. Mulder - Apple Nerd for life.
i bought a 5 GB ipod for $299 in december 2002...is there anyway i can pay a little extra and upgrade to the new version??
Question for iPod users : What's the latest on the issue with batteries not being replaceable in iPods and they run out in 1-2 years? That's one of the reasons I won't buy an iPod. If I'm going to pay a premium for the "Apple" name, then I sure as hell want it to last longer than 1-2 years. Has Apple responded to this?
Are you in Houston? Perhaps we could buy yours (if it would be adequate for my mother's needs) and you can move up.....
You can either send it in to apple and pay ~$250 for them to replace and install the battery, or you can pay $49 for the same battery and replace it your self Info on replacing the battery Step by Step instructions Edit: I forgot to add, Apple just recently release an external battery pack for the ipods. http://store.apple.com/1-800-MY-APPLE/WebObjects/AppleStore?productLearnMore=T6714LL/A
There are others that play videos, music, etc. if'n yer interested, although the iPod's light weight is what I love. The features it has, for the most part, are on other players, but man, it's light... and now... THIN.
With the older ipods you will have to get a fireware card for your pc if it doesn't have firewire. The new ipods have a stand that supports usb2 (usb stand coming out in june I believe) that you will be able to plug directly into most pcs
Thanks man. I forgot about the external batteries, but that's adding even more to the cost which I don't want to do, but the fact that the battery is user-replaceable is good. I sure don't want to spend $250 to replace a battery. lol!
Will it allow my mother to surf the net and manage email? She will never get into online bill paying et al... I'm sorry I don't know much about the iPod.
