People were hoping for a 60 Gig model, but instead they revamped the menu system, and made it a mm thinner. The biggest change however; is that they are reducing the price for each IPod by $100! That means you can get a 20 Gig IPod for $300 rather than $350+. I just bought a 20gig IRiver h120, and am already thinking of returning it if I can. http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/5457434/site/newsweek/ Update Update: And another article, this one describing the thinner (by one millimeter) case, the new menu options (can a brother get a firmware update?), 50% better battery life (12 hours), and multiple On-The-Go playlists that you can delete from (omg it's like 2002). Oh, and no 60GB yet (hence the "price drop.") http://www.gizmodo.com/ Edit: Uh, I think I'm going to sell my H120, if anyone is interested just post below!
For most people buying a minidisc player and stocking it with mp3s is a lot more affordable. Unless ipods dramatically decrease in price by christmas, I'll be getting a MD player.
Kind of reminds me of people saying MSX is a superior operating system. Or that Betamax will beat VHS.
I did not say you did. I said it reminds me of those instances, because back then, people also made buying decisions that had them end up with technology that would soon be off the market. But hey, everyone should just get what they like.
So, you just pulled that comparison out of thin air? Awesome. Anyway. MD has been out since 1991. It was a technology that was way ahead of it's time, both in functionality and in price. There just wasn't a need in the market for it, as regular cds were still more than adequate. More than a decade later the technology is cheaper and a little more practical. Would I rather have an Ipod? Sure. But the drawbacks of a MD player aren't plentiful or serious enough to outweigh the price in my eyes.. and I'm not really worried about it going "off the market".. just as long as they keep making the cds, which they will.
MD's still mean carrying around disks. That's the primary drawback. The iPod eliminates that problem.
The iPod also means you need to be carrying around a lot of money. Or at least you need to be before you buy one
I bought my 30gig Ipod for around $350 on ebay and brand new. THe only disppointment is that the battery life is only 4 freaking hours!!! How pathetic! By the end of the year or next year, there will be better device then the Ipod.
Well the 10gig 4th generation will about around 200. That means about 1gig per $20 dollars. Most of those usb drive sticks are about 30-50 for 250 Mb, so it looks like a pretty good deal now. I wanted to buy a IPod but I thought they were too expensive. A $100 dollar decrease is exactly what I was looking for. I'll probably end up selling my Iriver on Ebay.
Just because US hasn't caught on fire doesn't mean minidisk is obsolete. It has big market in Japan and Asia.
Whoo-Hoo! This is just what I was waiting for, perfect the features of that iPod, get the price down a bit and I'll certainly be picking one up!
Will the current 15 gig Ipod still be avabile for the 4th generation? And seeing how the price is 300 right now, it will be 200 correct?
Let's pause and reflect : 1) They made it ONE MILLIMETER thinner (WOO!). 2) They dropped the price by $100 (after screwing over everyone else that bought it before the price drop because the dang thing was so overpriced to begin with). 3) They changed the menu. (WOW!) The marketing muscle is at it again : let's make them think we've really given them something - they'll buy it. As for mini-disc. Give me a break - Sony's bombing the same way Apple bombed the first time : proprietary hardware. Mini-disc will never take over. And SJC, what the hell is MSX? That was like before the dawn of electricity.
Hey I'm not an iPod crusader. I would never buy an iPod unless they make it support a wider range of file formats and the support for those formats is made open source so that others can write software for it and it can be updated via flash memory.
I'm pretty sure I played Super Mario and Winter Games on this thing: It was a friend's computer, though. I had a ZX Spectrum:
