for the beer drinker's of New Mexico. I'm from New Mexico and the City of Albuquerque is trying to propose a new basketball arena for our college team. There is nothing wrong right now with our arena. One thing our city official's think is wrong is the fact that we can not sell beer on college grounds. All we have now, to drink and eat are "Orange whippe's, pepsi product soda, peanuts, snikers, popcorn, nachos and lobo dogs." WHY does beer need to be associated with the sport of basketball? The city thinks we can make a few thousand dollars by having beer sold at our new arena and forgetting about <b>" The PIT"</b> and all of it's history. Do you have any opinion's on this topic of "alcoholic beverage's affecting a city like this" How much extra $$$$$$ could that actually bring our city?
When I worked in Minor League baseball, beer sales were often the difference between the team making money and not making money. Beer sales could well be a big profit center at a new arena.
Here's what I don't understand. Why does the city think it should take it upon itself to build an arena for a local college team? Shouldn't that be the school's call. Does the university think they need a new arena? Shouldn't it be up to the university whether or not beer should be sold at the basketball team's games. There's got to be more to it than the city's looking for new revenue streams and coming up with the idea that they could make money off beer sales at a new arena.
