Well not really. I pissed away five years at NASA. Weslinder, however, is ahead of the curve.

I definitely want to start my own business someday. But I don't think I have the experience or the network to do that just yet. That's why I want to work for a good start-up instead of the Fortune 500s even if it means less money.

I've been interning at ESPN 97.5 The Ticket for a while now, starting to learn the inner workings of the sound board and probably start getting paid soon.

I just picked up another internship at Design at Work, they are a PR/Advertising agency (I actually start this Thursday). It's for 3 months, so if they are looking for a summer intern I'll let you know and put in a word for you.

I graduated UH with a B.S. in Information Systems. Currently, I work as a web developer at a large oil/gas company. I've been here for a year and half. I really love the environment here. The company's technology is rapidly improving, thanks to a well knowledgeable CIO.

I have been trying to get in grad school. I'm studying for GMAT right now. I'm planning to get my MBA with the concentration in Information Systems. Lately, I have been considering getting a joint degree of a MBA and Masters in Information Systems. I'm not sure if it's a waste of my time if I already have a bachelor's in IS. What do you guys think?

I have a few contacts at the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston. I did my senior internship there in the Public Relations Dept. in 2005 and I recall that they offer summer internships. It's somewhat competitive to get in, and you do get compensated ($3,000 I think).

E-mail me if you are interested.

    "Man that chick is hott"
"**** this class, im going to sleep"
"You want me to write a 3 page essay in 30 minutes? what!"

well since im in high school as well ..

    EAT,SLEEP, ****.

I still don't know what I want to do with my life. For now.. i need to get my credits and get that damn high school diploma first... lol :D

Yeah, I guess its what poison you pick.

Does anyone know what the big finance firms in Houston are?? Maybe trying to contact them about some things would be helpful...

You're a junior in HS, correct?

If so, sit back, relax, and ace all your classes. Get to college, take all your required gen eds you first year. Then right about that time is when you should start considering what you want to do and what you want to major in.

Planning things far in advance sounds nice and all, but it is slightly impractical. Right now, just start compiling a mental list of things that sound intriguing to yourself. Chat with people in those industries; just pick their brain. Come up with a list of insightful questions. Ask people when they decided to do what they are now doing, ask them what they wanted to be before they decided on their current career, and ask them what they would ideally like to do if they could start all over again. You'd be surprised how much people will open up when you ask those questions.

Damn, that sounds amazing, but I just went to their website and the application + letters were due yesterday. Thanks though. It's a tremendous opportunity. Derek is planning on pursuing an Art History degree and I'm pretty sure he would die to get an internship like that next summer. How was the internship? It's very cool that you have contacts.

Thanks a lot! Definitely let me know if you can. shannonhanus@gmail.com

Also, did you have contacts when you got the radio job? I've been looking for an AM radio internship for the second summer in a row now and I'm just trying to gauge how crucial it is to have "connections." If anyone knows if 610 hires summer interns, it would be great to know. Their website doesn't say much and the few e-mails I've sent haven't been replied to.

Yeah I had a buddy who was doing the internship for like a week and had to quit so he gave them my info and I contacted them. If things keep going well for me they'll take off my "intern" tag and pay me - then they might need someone to intern. So if that happens before the summer I'll let you know and give you their contact info. It's a super fun job, I run the sound board for the national shows (Colin Cowherd / Mike Tirico) from 10-2 then help answer phones / set up topics for The Bottom Line and Calvin Murphy Show. Like any internship itll be boring at first but after a while it'll get better and everyone is super laid back and flexible with schedules.

I'm in house counsel in an entertainment company. I love my job, so count me in the minority. I work a decent 50-60 hours a week and earn half as much as the average big law corporate lawyer, but I truly enjoy what I do and I'm a huge fan of my company's products. It's a job I wanted since I was a kid, so I can say I'm pretty lucky.
