Alright, I've decided I'm going to join this, or something similar. Y'all have any suggestions? Is Blockbuster a better deal because you can go directly there on an impulse? Any good offers I should link to to get the best deal, etc? TIA.
I've been on Netflix since they came out. they've got the best selection of movies, even the rare movies you like like Krull and the Last StarFighter
A coworker had blockbuster and liked it for the in store picks ups and rentals that came with it. They then started taking away many of those options so he switched to netflix. I've always used netflix and really enjoy it, so I can't really compare.
I love it! I don't buy DVDs anymore and it saved me a lot of money. I usually watch a movie once then don't bother with it. I'm not sure if there are any links to get better deals but google is your best bet. It usually takes one day for turnaround. I.E. you send the dvd on MOnday and you get a new DVD on Wednesday. I've been using it for almost a year. No problems at all. Also, you can watch movies instantly but their selection is limited.
I agree with tinman. That's what I love about Netflix. Those impossible to find movies that you would have to otherwise buy on amazon are what make it great.
if you would be willing to watch on your computer some, it's nice to have the streaming hours of netflix movies each month alogn with the subscription. i've been wasting my subscription of late, gonna put it on hold..
If you have Comcast and use this feature a lot, get ready to be kicked to the curb. I use BB for the in store free movies. I can drop off 3, pick up 3 there for free and then wait a couple of days for another 3 via the mail. I don't even watch most movies, I just copy 'em and add to the collection.
I actually cancelled my netflix today. i just dont use it enough i've had the same dvds for the past 4-5 months it seems. really isnt enough out there for me to want to rent to watch, with what i have on tv...and i usually will just purchase anything i really want. i would rent a lot of tv shows on there and HD/blu-ray movies...but the novelty of watching the same movie only in HD has worn off and i can just download tv shows now and play them to my tv so. but when i did use it i was great.
I use it quite a bit during the summer, but during basketball season, not so much. I have a family account though, so I can give my sister my video selections when I don't need them so the money doesn't get wasted. That's something I really like, she has a separate queue and I can allocate how many of our rentals she can get at a time.
This is how I use BB except I do it with blu-ray movies so i can't really copy it . With all the movies coming out on blu-ray I hardly ever rent a DVD. My collection of movies has been stagnant because of it.
I use Netflix, but my sister uses Blockbuster. She loves her account, but I've never had any reason to complain about Netflix (except they don't have season 4 disc 2 of Stargate sg-1... could be season 5, I forget.) I probably wouldn't use it, if all I wanted was a movie rental service; with it I can catch up on old shows or even series that I missed out on. (gf just loaded our queue w/ House and Scrubs episodes.) The instant watch selection isn't great, but it did just increase quite a bit w/ the starz on demand addition not that long ago. I also have the 1 day to send 1 day to receive wait time. Sometimes they'll need to send random episode disc from other distribution centers for a longer wait time (couple days.)
How do they ship TV series? For example, I want to watch LOST from the beginning, but the complete first season has 7 discs. Will they send them chronologically or just send random available ones?
I've never had them shipped out of order. Example: the stargate series... we had the entire season 4 in queue, we received the fist disc and had a very long wait on disc 2. So they skipped disc 3, 4, etc and went down to some movies we had in queue below it. Eventually they removed the very long wait and moved it to a different section at the bottom that means "we don't have this, we might get it eventually." That might not be the normal procedure, but it has certainly been the norm for us. You should be OK in the order, as long as you don't manually switch the order up. (easy to check/adjust queue order.)
I used it and cancelled. New Releases were always on a "wait", and it got even worse when I went Blu-Ray. It's OK for non-new releases, but I found that I was getting movies that I didn't really even want to watch but put on my list anyway just to keep the movies coming. Blockbuster near my house rents Blu-Ray movies now, and its rare that I go in there and they don't have the new releases available. Luckily, there aren't many Blu-Ray renters near me, so it works out pretty well.
I've used both Netflix and BB. One problem both have had in the past are that new releases are sometimes hard to get. When you are a new customer, this is not a problem - I think you are put in their "special" queue to really give you great service. But once you've been with them a few months, you start getting dropped back with the rest of us. Not sure if they still have this "issue' or not but currently I'm with BB because, if there is a new release that I want to see, I can almost always get it by taking the mail-in movie back to the store in return for a new release (free) off the shelf. Of course that kind of defeats the convience but there is a BB on the way to work so it's not so bad.
