Have you ever had a Negroni cocktail? One of the finer cocktails I've ever had. Sipping one right now. For the casual jack and coke person, stay away. I like Beefeater Gin for my Negronis. That's also what the PDT cocktail book recommends. For sweet vermouth, Carpano Antica is the absolute best. But Martini is an acceptable alternative. Campari is just Campari. Pour about 1.25 oz of each into a mixing glass with ice. Stir, do not shake. Then strain it into a chilled rocks glass with one very large piece of ice. Best if you have a mold for spherical ice balls. For garnish. Use a peeler on an orange over the drink (the citrus oil will add a nice touch). Be careful not to get too much of the white part. Then wipe the peel around the rim and tosh it into the drink. Et voila!
It's one of the only cocktails I'll drink. Jack and coke is not a cocktail. It's a crime against bourbon.
It's quite foo foo looking however not a drink to be taken lightly. Many complex flavors. I love beer but sometimes I just want a mean cocktail.
Whenever I go out to a bar, I get that or a Manhattan. Just depends on my mood. It's a great drink but I do get asked if I'm having a vodka and cranberry quite often. Oh well, it's a small price to pay.
