I'm building another computer and recently ordered my motherboard combo. So please all you A-cert wizards help me out here. I'd like to use newegg.com or pricewatch.com to purchase but will purchase from anywhere as long as it is reliable and affordable. Thank you.
I agree with you, I would use Newegg.com That is probably your best bet. I think 512mb of 3200 ddr ram is around $90. (generic brand) http://www.newegg.com/app/ViewProductDesc.asp?description=20-150-319&depa=0 is for 3500ddr. known brand: Corsair: http://www.newegg.com/app/viewProductDesc.asp?description=20-145-462&depa=0 This is $172
I've heard bad things about generic brand RAM. Has anyone here used it? Also, do I need any special RAM since my mobo combo is 333 FSB?
I am using some "unknown brand" since it was the cheaper way. With rebates I got 512mb 2700ddr last summer for $40. It's been great so far, no problems. I can't remember the name of the company. I bought it from Circuit City.
No, this part right here: http://www.crucial.com/store/listmodel.asp?cat=RAM&mfr=ASUS&productline=ASUS+Motherboards&submit=Go
The K7S8XE is not an ASUS motherboard. It's an ASRock motherboard. Now go ye seek again (at crucial.com) ... ye shall find.
Why the hell does it have ASUS in the description then? I was told ASUS is a quality maker of motherboards. ASRock better be as good!
ASUS is a quality maker of motherboards... I wouldn't know ASRock from Kid Rock. Maybe it's an off-shoot of ASUS - although I don't know why they'd do that.
If you buy from Crucial.......try <b>bbshare</b> in the coupon - promo box and see if it drops the price a bit. <hr color=red> If they ever decide to open a Forum dedicated to Computers and other Techie things, it should be named in honor of Lil Pun.
That code did drop the price of the RAM by about $5.00 but I still didn't buy. I don't see a brand name anywhere. If I buy from Crucial can I be sure that it is quality RAM and not generic? How long will that code be good?
Not sure how much longer it will work. It is the same code that I used 3 months ago and it seems to have been around for a while.
Crucial is the brand name. Crucial is the memory division of Micron. They're one of the largest producers of RAM in the world.
