Go to Sears.com, do a search for "Playstation" and then click on Playstation Consoles. The system is the one on the top...

They appear to have them in stock, shipping within 2 days. How much longer I don't know.

    Anyhow, good luck.

    Geez, people!!

It's weird, my sister has a friend that snagged three PS IIs when they first came out. He kept one and put the other two on e-bay and managed to fetch about 800 bucks each! I'd say that 166% profit is pretty good...

What many people don't know is that video game companies (Sony, Nintendo, Sega) make practically NOTHING on console sales. The price for new next gen consoles are very high to create a high demand for the system, (wow, if it costs 300 bucks, it MUST be good!) therefore selling a high number of systems at the outset and driving up software sales. Once the console has a good, established base of customers, the price on them eventually goes down to the point where the company might be actually LOSING money on each system sold, but making tons of money on software and accessory sales.

Add to the fact that Sega is dropping out of the hardware business and concentrating strictly on sofware development and that Nintento and Microsoft both have Next-gen systems due out, the PS2 will probably be down to $250 by mid 2001 and in the $200 range by the holiday season

It DOES feel good, however, to be the first person on the block to have the coolest new toy....

Call?! Are you out of your mind? Hehe... do it online man. By the time you make it through that "Press 1 if you're left-handed", "Press 2 if you've got an ugly girlfriend and don't care", etc. menu routine it'd be sold out. Amazon.com was selling out anywhere from 30-90 seconds after adding it to their site before Christmas. Now they're lasting as long as 9 minutes. [IMG]

Better luck next time... don't worry... by around March and April, these things will be plentiful. I went ahead and bought one since this is what their "regular" price is. I wasn't about to spend $450-$600 like people on Ebay are doing at the moment. [IMG]

For those of you who have one already, and have had a chance to try it out a lot, how good is it? Is it worth the price or a little disappointing?

Playstation 2 is cool. But what I counting down the days for is the release of the X-Box. This game console is going to blow away Playstation 2.

I can't wait till Microsoft releases this next fall. It is amazing they have all the big name software developers already signed up.

For more info regarding X-Box check out the following link:

    Titan's fanatic!!!!

It was the first time the Titans sent an offense to the line of scrimmage with Eddie George in the backfield behind McNair to go with Wycheck at tight end and Carl Pickens, Kevin Dyson and Yancey Thigpen at wide receiver.

So many choices, with a full season still ahead.

"I think that might be scary for a defense," Dyson said.

Speaking of Xbox, Bill Gates unveiled the thing today (actually yesterday) at the CES. I was able to watch a live feed of it on the net. This system is pretty darn big....bigger than the PS2....about the size of a VCR or DVD player. Black in color, with a big 'X' strewn across the top of the machine and a green bubble in the middle. It didn't look too bad. As for the Xbox controller, I'm not too impressed (based strictly on its looks). It looks a lot like the Sega Dreamcast controller (and borrows a bit from the Nintendo GameCube controller), but with 6 face buttons and an ugly-looking green bubble in the center. I hope the thing is comfortable. There were a couple of games demoed also (Abe's Oddysee and Malice). They looked really nice but didn't "wow" me like the GameCube demos at Spaceworld.

I'll be getting a GameCube at launch, and I may grab the Xbox. PS2 I'll be passing on...my interest in that system has been steadily declining.

A-Train, Sega hasn't made it official that they are abandoning the hardware scene and becoming strictly software (something like that would send shock waves across the videogame community), but I wouldn't be surprised if that happens....after all creating, mass producing, marketing, etc. a console is damn expensive and Sega isn't exactly in the greatest position financially.

Heres two pages with the specs for the systems in question, if you know how to read and compare the specs.

    Playstation2

    X-Box

maybe there is someone here with some experience in these kinda specs who can tell us what they really mean.

    maybe, maybe no

    To anyone in Houston:

Kay-Bee toy stores has PS 2's in stock (at least they did last week, when I just walked in the store and bought one). However, there is a catch. They are forcing customers to buy the system in a combo pack, meaning you have to buy three video games as well (and all the good games are sold out......so only crappy games are left).

The total cost after tax is $541. The system runs you $350, and the games are around $50 a pop.

If you don't want the games, you can just keep them in the wrapper and take them to another store like Circuit City, Best Buy, Toys R Us, etc. They won't give you cash for the games, but they will give you an in-store credit without a receipt. For example, you could take all the games to Circuit City, trade them in for an in-store credit, and get $150 worth of DVD's for your new toy. Then you can sell the PS 2 on the net.

How bizzare. With every other product in the world, demand goes down when the price goes up. I know its off topic A-train but they don't set the price high to increase demand, they set it at a level that they think the market will bear and will maximize their profits. Fact is, if the price was set lower, they would sell more units.

True, but doesn't that depend on the "I must have it" factor. I think in economics it's called "utility" or something. Coke, Pepsi and Cigarettes fall under that heading. It's an addiction. It renders some of the typical demand and supply factors dysfunctional. PS II has people paying whatever they must to get their fix. I don't think demand went down because of the price, I think demand went down, if anything, because of the release of the other products. The monopoly for Sega and Playstation is about to fold.

Thanks for posting that info. I ordered one shortly after I read your post on Saturday. It was shipped today. I must be going through some middle aged crazy period as I also bought a 50 inch TV yesterday. Boy, Calvin's hair is really going to look scary on that screen.
