There is no way ND has that many current Parade AAs.

Most of their roster consist of Rivals 3-star quality players.

Battle, Sapp, and Holiday are the only highly recruited players I can think of.

R.C. had the team running the 3-4 against an option team without bringing the outside linebackers to the line. There is no way we could have stopped the option. another coaching error:mad:

A little premature. Nebraska is having a bad year no doubt about it, but they havent, and wont give up. The recruiting has not suffered, they have quite a few young players who need to mature. Not sure what you meant in another post about "free in state tuition" although if you know please let me know as I am currently taking classes at UNO {University of Nebraska at Omaha} and would like to get in on this

    ;)

Nebraska is going to be well and truly destroyed on Saturday. Texas has just dispatched two option QBs performing better than Jamal Lord w/o a problem.

Ell Roberson? Sucked against the UT team speed. Seneca Wallace? No success on the ground, buddy.

And guess what? Both of those guys can throw the ball better than Lord, who's a lot like a RB on a trick play, without the advantage of surprise.

The option is D-E-A-D in big-time college football. Leave it to the service academies and high school, and come into the 21st century Nebraska.

Speed kills the option. Texas has speed. Texas wins.

Also, I know UT is rather inept on offense, but how much speed is on the NU defense? That could be a factor in this game. It's a game of match ups and while I think Lord will be good next year, I think NU is gonna have alot of trouble moving the ball on the UT d. Like that freshman kid Horne though. He made Sammy Davis look like Leonard Davis.

Haven, how's your first year of UT law?

Is there any chance the Nebraska defense might quit being called the Blackshirts? Its not like they've done anything to warrant the compliment lately.

    Ditto for the Wrecking Crew.

I disagree. I think this will be a close game - primarily due to the fact that our offense still sucks. Our weakness defensively is power running straight up the gut - which Nebraska can still do. ISU had no running back, which makes the option easier to defend. We did really well against KSU, but I think Nebraska's offense can be better (KSU's defense is better). I think they'll move the ball and score some - not a lot - of points.

The problem is the offense. We still haven't shown that we can throw the ball with any effectiveness. We can collect 150yds in the air if our running game is going well. Can we throw for 250 to 300 if the running game gets stopped? If we can't, and do more of the 3-and-out crap, Nebraska will eventually wear down the defense.

There were some nicknames on Hornfans floating around about a new nickname for the Wrecking Crew:

    Wretched Crew
    Dixie Chicks
    Wrecking who
    France

I wouldnt say the option is dead although I agree it needs to be used in conjunction with a passing offense. If I`m not mistaken the option worked pretty darned good last year and I wont even point out that it`s been working for over 20 years. We lost a Heisman QB, our best TE and 2 offensive lineman. Our defense lost quite a bit also, but I wont make excuses, we are not very good this year and Lord is not the answer, as I would like to have seen our Freshman QB take over the reins and get ready for next year as I dont see Lord returning as the starter next year {or Craig Bohl our defensive coordibator}. The game on Saturday will be an exciting one...good luck to you and your Longhorns, but dont write the Huskers off just yet

No, it`s tradition, just like the fans at Memorial Stadium standing and cheering the opposing team as they exit the field. They have not played well since the Colorado game last year, although they had a decent game againist the Aggies. If you recall up until the Colorado game last year the Blackshirts played very well

Personally, I think Nebraska should be ranked. They have a 6-3 record, crushed a top 15 team (ASU) and two what I would call other quality wins (Missou, at A&M).

I think they have a better resume than Florida or Tennesse for instance.

Man, Nebraska's won three national titles in the last eight years using the option.

It's not dead. It's just not being run well at the moment.

Seneca Wallace isn't exactly an "option" quarterback......

They should get some votes, and should be ranked higher than Florida for sure....losing to Iowa State and Penn State isn't terrible, and Oklahoma State isn't exactly horrible....

    Concerning the option...

It's dead. Yeah, I know Nebraska has had success recently with it. And I'm sure it'll make a comeback in the future.

Last year was an anomaly. They beat OK on a trick play, and missed Texas. Against OK, their offense didn't really lookthat great, eithe. Then they got torn apart by Miami. And that was with Eric Crouch, who ran the option about as well as it's ever been done. If you need a Heisman winner to make it successful.. well, it's time to scrap the system.

40's are going down, down, down for defensive linemen. IMO, the development of guys like Cory Redding and Tommy Harris is the reason the option fails, now. These guys are fast enough to have played LB 10 years ago. The option has to be have the threat of a lateral run. But when you can string it out as well as the teams with speed and power, it doesn't work.

A few years ago, Nebraska could overpower these teams. Even if they strung it out, the big corn-fed backs could just run over the defense. Doesn't work like that anymore, thanks to continually improving weight-training techniques that let players keep the speed, and add bulk.

A good spread offense gains more yards than the option, and actually has a lower risk of turnovers. The option has more risk, but less reward. It might be a good change-of-pace... but I think its days of a standby are done for the time being.

I take it you think the option isn't going anywhere?

It was only like what 5-6 years ago Nebraska won two NC and destroyed a blistering, loaded, Florida and Tennessee teams with the option. This what 20-30-40 years since the forward pass has been a major part of most offense. If they get personnel like they had, I don't question for a moment they could win another NC with the option as the bread and butter play. The question is not whether the system can work, it is if Solich or any future NU coach can get that level of talent concentrated again.
