With the Rocket game on TNT two weeks ago and this Sunday's game with the Spurs canceled on NBC, why does the networks keep canceling Rocket games? Being out of the Houston market, that's two games in the last month that I was looking forward to watching and now won't be able to!

I'm so mad I can't see straight (much less form a coherent sentence)! [IMG]

Most networks were counting on the Rockets having CB4.

Without Charles playing, & due to our poor record there is not a lot of interest out Houston to see the Rockets.

Hopefully that may change if more people start paying attention to Francis after the All-Star weekend.

It's all about the ratings, and we aren't as popular, or media friendly w/o CB4.

not only chuck, when the Networks made their television schedule last year, they thought that "media darling" Snottie Pimpin was going to be in our lineup also.

Guys...they didn't really cancel us out of coverage...they swapped us.

We lose the Spurs game, but gain back two. They picked us up for NJ on a Saturday, and Chicago on a Sunday night. Obviously, they are wanting to feature Francis against Marbury and Brand.

We aren't really getting disrespected here.

I'm still bitter about the Seattle game either way.

    Shandon40,

Houston is the 4th largest city size wise, not "4th most popular". There is a big difference.

This is exactly why God created DirecTV. For the small price of something like $150, you get to see every single Houston game, plus most of those other teams as well. Well worth it in my opinion.

The only draw back is that it takes a toll on your social life, unless of course you are dating a fellow Rocket fan. [IMG]

Is that right? I'm basing it on all my Sat season tickets and Sunday night games being stamped 7:30. I'll have to recheck. You're probably right.

    Points to ponder.

    1. Kings get 24 nationally televised games in their entire illustrious franchise history. But this year ... they get 24 nationally televised games. That's coast to coast rock em and sock em. Jason and C Webb are hot commodities. That's last year and this year. One of these guys better not get hurt or traded.

    2. Rockets fight for attention, play their hearts out and finally win the brass ring in 94. It took another ring the following year to finally get some national exposure. Now that we haven't won a ring in four or five seasons you can't expect them to have us on national TV. Especially if we are playing another Texas Team. The Spurs only won the ring last year. (They are sunk if they don't get it again this year, man.)

    3. Hakeem is heralded as quite probably the greatest center that ever played the game. He has current players like: Shaq, Malone, Zo, GP,etc... and veterans like: Magic, Julius, Walton, Jordan all say he is the best center they ever saw or played against or most talented, etc.... But he gets no respect by the media. He wasn't born in the USA, he's not dead, hasn't written any disperaging books about the game, doesn't cuss publicly, his shoe deal is done because he says: "....everyday kids use my products and they don't have to spend a hundred dollars or more just to wear running shoes. That's foolish.(Laughs).... " ahhhhh, maybe the biggest reason is he's not here to rip anybody off.

    4. Last night the nationally carried game was LA Lakers and Chicago. Why? The coach of the Lakers once coached the Bulls. I happen to know the cousin of one of the Laker's ballboy's third grade teachers from DeMoines Iowa. Ya think if we had him travel to San Antonio with us and we let it slip to Costas that this teacher is a "close friend of Kobe's", we might get Bob to briefly mention us in his opening remarks while he televises the Lakers playing the Russian Girl Guides from Bosnia? Naw. We need more pizzazz, guys. We need more glitter. We need controversy.

The real reasons why we should NOT be on National TV.

    1. We don't have Kobe.

    2. The name of our state doesn't start with Calif or New Something.

    3. Costas cannot stand Charles Barkley and Chuck is still on our roster.

    4. Ironically, and maybe contradictory to number 3, Charles is not around the game and so NO Sir Charles sound bites for "Sportscenter" or "Inside the NBA". "Gee, our (opponents) played a great game tonight. But our Houston crowd helped during the last two minutes. Man, Bull and Mobes came through in the clutch." Just doesn't make many highlights. Now if only we can get Bullard make a racial slur or hit the ref or choke Rudy. We would be on every night. Well, for a couple of weeks anyway.

    5. Did I say we don't have Kobe?

    6. Did I mention Costas picks his own games? Should I mention Texas girls refuse to let Marv Albert "dress-up" then beat them?

    7. Yankees really don't know a good basketball game from a Home Shopping Network exclusive combination acme back scratcher and espresso maker.

Man popeye, you nailed it about "Dream".
Here is the "GREATEST" center to ever play the game and yet gets no respect. How many times do we have to watch the knicks and that guy they got...ummm...ooops, forgot his name, J.R....no thats not it...hmmm...help.
Anyway, I can't believe the press Shaq gets. He couldn't carry "Dreams" jock. If he is one of the 50 greatest players to ever play, than I am Einstein. He may belong in that club in the future, but as of right now, absolutely not!!!!
I believe when it is all said and done people will look at "Dream's" stats and say "Damn, he was good."
But stats don't tell the whole story. He has done so many "little" things that changed the outcomes of games that I am just thankful to have watched this GREAT player from college through the NBA.
It was almost like a DREAM!!!!!!

Seattle and Houston, the best teams in the league five years ago couldn't make the cut..What chance do two texas teams have, even if one is the defending champs.

Guys: people like Charisma, which Shaq has a ton of. Dream is an introvert and generally hasn't done anything exciting this year.

Although everyone realizes Dream is/was one of the greatest centers (although I would argue for Wilt/Russell) noone wants to watch one of the greatest ever play 20 minutes a game.

We all love the Rockets, but aside from the fans who else would want to watch the Rockets. Our human sound byte (Chuck) is gone, Dream is playing 20 minutes a game, our PF is Bullard (great matchup vs Duncan if SA game was still on). Our best hope is people took notice of Stevie during the All-Star game and people will start "requesting" more coverage of him.

To be honest if it wasn't to watch the development of Francis/Mobley I wouldn't want to watch either, so why would we exopect others to want to watch us develop on national TV? I admit it losing sucks and watching these guys can be frustrating (especially with Bullard & Walt playing extended minutes). Until we start winning (hopefully next year) we won't be on national TV very often.

The less the Rockets are on NBC the better. The Rockets seem to lose every road game on NBC, and for some reason they are always road games. Maybe because we have the oldest building in the league NBC doesn't like to show the games in Houston. Could it be they don't like are logo on center court??? I like it better when the Rocks don't get the respect just like when we entered the playoffs at the 6th seed. NBC and the rest of the National media had wrote us off and we showed them what CLUTCH is all about.

    RF34 and Season tickets holders

My season tickets were printed with 7:30 starting times for both NJ and Chicage, yet my Millenium Program book that was sent out in Nov. has them at 5:00 on NBC. Someone along the line the times were changed to accommodate NBC.

Note the time change. I suspect we will get one of those reminders in the mail.

Shandon, Shandon, Shandon, Unfortunately, several Houstonians wouldn't agree that Houston is the 4th most popular city. I know what you were trying to say, however.

It looks like the made a mistake on this game. Oh well their loss. I would be willing guess though that next week they won't take Lakers vs. Rockets off the card.
