I was saying that this Blazers series reminded me of the Seattle series in '93...I wasn't the only one...future looks bright.
I love this piece because it's all true. Folks would have asked to blow up the 92 squad and I guess there were some asking for us to trade Hakeem too. I hope for the best.
Why do we keep harking to the past? Different team, different league We get no pass from our opponents for our sorry state.
Because those who cannot remember the past are condemned to repeat it. If we dont' learn from our previous mistakes or those of others then we are unable to rise above them. The Rockets will rise back up. Perhaps this loss will be a catalyst for next year. We'll see. It sure was sad to see Howard grimacing in pain from the loss.
We hark (is this a word?) back to the past because it can guide us and give perspective. Ignoring, or even diminishing the past is foolish. Nobody expects a pass from opponents. It is on the team use what happened this year to fuel tomorrow. If you can't grasp this (which is the whole point of the article), then you are stuck in a misery loop.
We saw the birth of a new Howard in the Playoffs...more work with Hakeem in the Off Season & we will see a possible MVP type performance next season from our big man...imagine a full season of 26-14-& 3 blocks? just need to tweak out supporting cast. Need shooters that not only shoot, but can make shots. Need perimeter defender. Need better assistant coaches. Need to come out hungry next season.
It's also possible to romanticize the past, come up with flawed analogies when we need to deal with the hard data that is right in front of our face. Well, then, the only way to test this will be same time again next year. If we are able to move past the first round by finally playing a competent style of basketball. Till then, we agree to disagree.
Dwight isn't going to have the fortune of abusing Robin Lopez every night. I doubt he plays with the same sense of urgency against the Pelicans.
good read, but it didnt really tell me anything that i didnt i already know. this loss will obviously make us hungry. kelvin cato hungry. but yeah, thats the only positive you can really take from this. did i expect us to win it all? no way. too young. need more experience. i just hope we dont waste howards next 3 years
Harden has to get into the gym and work hard on building a bigger gas tank. He can't go forward with that being and excuse for not being engaged on every defensive posession. Hopefully we use the mill well and it is the year we get a third star. Have a good feeling about Kevin Love.
Oh, I hope we trade Lin for a valuable draft pick early and make a push for Patty Mills. Not only because of his background playing back up point for Popovich in an organisation like the Spurs but he is a deadly shooter and quick.
The grass is always greener. Patty Mills is shooter only. I guess that means Casspi will be the primary ball handler and playmaker.
This article is true in the sense that the shot will linger in the minds of every Rocket. But that was a different team. Completely different mentality. This team does not need to be playing harder. It needs ti play smarter. Those Rockets were built for a championship. All the role players did all the intangibles that helped Hakeem. Rudy T was also an amazing coach. If you want to talk about surrounding Hakeem with shooters then look at the stats to that Rocket team. Kenny Smith was shooting 43% behind the arc.
I don't understand why everybody here is butt hurt about the rockets loosing the way they did! We have to understand something here, I'm not one to blame the refs but you can't play a sport nevertheless win a game when it's 5 vs 8... Enough about the refs, we played horrible during this whole series, yet we still had a chance to bring back home. And as for Lilliard? Who cares, because I promise he won't show up nor score like this in the next round. Keep in mind, besides the fact that Portland was hitting some amazing shots, that they played a team that played absolutely no defense and when they did they where also picking up slack for the other player who chose not to D up. Lilliards shot was indeed an amazing lucky heart breaking shot but it only ignited the fire under the rockets asses. They needed a loss like this to realize that **** isn't promised and to come back with avenge nice next year! Go rockets
Well, to make next season easier they need to trade for a PF that can challenge the like of Aldridge and Randolph. I know not every team we played has an Aldridge or Randolph. In fact there are just two out of the 30 teams that have those players. So is it good to trade away Asik for a decent PF? And what kind of PF can we get?? We definitely don't want another PF that can't defend or rebound the ball such as Terrence Jones. But we can always keep Asik and start him only when we play those teams. So Asik is pretty valuable and we should only look to trade him if we get a decent PF. Like maybe 1st round + Asik for Kevin Love or Milsap. Definitely don't want to trade Parson, i think he's as important as Harden and Howard for this team.
Yawn... We went through this with the revisiting of Clutch city in game 5... and nothing came of it... Different coach, different mentality, different players, different era...
