http://www.nba.com/encyclopedia/ looks who's on the front page! (not for bulls fans, Rockets fans only) it takes you to this: http://www.nba.com/encyclopedia/finals/houston_rockets_1994.html
Tinman, your the greatest, I don't care what anyone on this board says..... Awesome pic, can we trade for that guy??
Note its NBA.com Encyclopedia PLAYOFF EDITION when I clicked on the "A Dream Season " Link it took me to this great story. I'm glad the NBA.com people are educating the public and the world with correct information. Thank you David Stern!
this pretty much sums it up for us: “What made it so special was the city of Houston had never won a sports championship,” sums up Smith. “I think the championship changed people’s thinking about their own city. It made them feel like their city had some significance that it hadn’t had before. The mentality of the people in the city was totally different just because a basketball team won an NBA Championship.”
You know what tinman, I respect you a lot too because you are truly one of the few Rockets ....ONLY fans. I have to admit, I'm a relatively new Rockets fan so I have to look up old info about the past greatness, but you obviously are a lot older than I am and seem to respect the past more than the average (ClutchFans) fan. +1 for you
That's the second time I've seen an article that thinks Horry was a rookie in '94. It said he was only a month into his career when we played the Knicks to tie the record at 15. He played a whole year and two full rounds of playoffs b4 that month.
thanks! the past is a good way to understand where the current team is and how it got there. i like the new Rockets obviously, but there are too many of the exact same topics going on here. I never saw the old old Rockets with Moses and Calvin. At least you guys are lucky enough to watch the DVDs and the old espn classics of some games. the one constant that the Rockets teams had were they were like a family. from the Announcers on the radio to TV. and these guys love the Rockets, Gene Peterson, Calvin, Bill, Jim. you'll be an old Rockets fan at one point and you tell the youngsters about the legend of Yao Ming..
You would have loved Moses... i mean no other center i've ever seen could suddenly make the game his toy... Most big scoring centers - Kareem, Shaq, Hakeem - still needed a good entry pass. But moses would gobble up so many offensive rebounds that i swear it seemed like half his points came on put backs... He was also well known for taking a poor shot just because he knew that he would get the rebound and put it back in.
I know that the reason Dream was so good was Moses schooling him when he was young Also know that the reason Cassell was so good as a rookie is because Mad Max never took it easy on him
Yeah and it lasted for only a few years. Unfortunately, the sports championship did not instill long term interest in Rockets basketball as you can see the enthusiastic crowds the Texans and Astros get but how disinterested the TC crowds are.
The Corporation crowd was different than the crowds at the Summit. I remember the "BEAT LA" signs and chants.. it'll get rowdy again!
