If you're not in the game, and you're not participating in an impromptu celebration, you need to sit. League rules. Fans asked for it, the NBA delivered it. Mike McGraw of the Arlington Heights Daily Herald (via '64 and Counting), spearheaded the movement to get players to sit. And I agree with him, even though I'm a stander. And it's not because I'm a former resident of Arlington Heights. ----------------------------------------------------------- Personally, I dislike it. What's next? Fans are banned froms standing due to obstructing other fans' experiend?
Hmm, this all seems very trivial and useless. If there are any penalties for this that cost us in games I'm going to be quite angry.
What is the penalty? Is this going to be like threatening to fine players for flopping - and then just never mentioning it let alone following through on it.
I don't like this. Some teams thrive when players on the bench are standing up and being supportive. I like how the Rockets have consistently stood up until the good guys score their first basket. What's the big deal?
Some bigshot and his daughters are mad that they can't see the game as well because they sit behind the bench - although they're too busy twittering on their crackberries anyways.
Solution: Let the teams stay in a dugout like baseball. So they can stand all they want without blocking the fans' view. Or Raise the stands above the ground like football. That will probably prevent the Artest incidents from happening again. BTW, why do tall basketball players have to sit on those low chairs?
I like this solution, but it would never happen since the owners would have to remove a couple rows of seats behind each bench. Lost revenue.
i can see how this could be a hindrance if your sitting right behind the players, and if u sat behind the rockets bench you probably couldn't see for half the game since our players stand up the most.
I guess so. When the Rockets play the Suns or Nuggets, I sit right behind the bench. All you have to do is look up at the MASSIVE screen showing game play. I blame Violet Palmer.
I remember I spent a pretty penny to sit on the first row of the lower level. Unfortunately, I couldn't see any of the action because Rudy T kept on blocking the action by moving up and down the sideline. Biggest waste of money ever.
Well I like the ruling. Those seats behind the players aren't cheap. The players can celebrate by doing the bump fist.
I like it too. For the fans sake. I think I should be a little loose though. I like it when a player makes a BIG play and the guys jump off their chairs just like the fans. I still want to see that.
this is so stupid now what r the bench warmers going to do now since they can't be cheerleaders btw with all these bans coming ups whats next...nba team cheerleaders should not be visible when the ball is in play because it may cause a distraction (ex. v-span suckd so much he was distracted when he was on the floor by the rockets power dancers since they dont have women like them in greece)
they'd have to remodel most stadiums/arenas to do that....i think it would be a waste of money and time.....and the reason why they use the low chairs is related to the reason they dont want them standing up...because they'll block the fans' view if they sit in higher chairs. Afterall, they are basketball players.
i agree...i dont know why so many posters think it's stupid. Fans pay big money to see the game, it's not always corporate big shots that are sitting in the front rows. I think the issue with this is that players started doing it for long periods and sometimes tied it in to the game. Like they wouldn't sit until their team scored their first point. That can be anywhere from 5 seconds to minutes. I think THAT was pretty stupid and useless. Just let them jump up and celebrate and then sit back down..
Fair. But can you see it from the other side as well? Players deserve to be standing and cheering for a team that they have a LOT invested in.
