I have that game on Super Nintendo and I used to play it all the time. The problems with this game were... 1)The guys would jumpshoot ft's...sorry that is dumb 2)You couldn't make trades 3)I am a Hawk fan and a roster of: Dominique Wilkins Stacy Augmon Blair Rassmussen Jon Koncak Rumeal Robinson Kevin Willis Morlon Wiley Rodney Monroe Murice Cheeks Paul Graham Duane Ferrell Alexander Volkov That isn't too much fun of a team to use. 4)Three pointers was hard to make. 5)The Lakers/Celtics/Seattle/Warriors/Indiana/Cavs seemed to have the most talent on the game. But it was cool because players actually didn't make every single shot. the problem with NBA2k2 is that if you work the ball around inside enough you can find ways to get easy dunks even onthe hardest level. I have this team: PG:Jason Terry SGoug Christie SF:Glenn Robinson PF:Shareef C:Theo Ratliff PG:Lindsey Hunter SGion Glover SG/SFermarr Johnson SF:Matt Harpering PF:Joe Smith PF:Alan Henderson C:Keon Clark Hunter/Glover/Smith/Clark is the rotation I use off the bench
But the portraits (all of them suck), the refs, the injuries (it would show the guy being taken off the court with an eye cut) and those cutscenes (Matt Bullard for three!)... Not to mention Rockets greats Dave Jamerson and Buck Johnson (is he in the game?).
What about Carl Herrera? Minnesota had Orlando sucked on that game! Brian Williams??? Greg Kite? Jeff Turner Stantley Roberts Denver had a no so great roster aswell... Reggie Williams Marcus Liberty Anthony Cook Joe Wolf Greg Anderson the Bucks had to be the worst.Dale Eillis was their leading scorer at like 15PPG.Fred Roberts/ Jay Humphries/Steve Henson/Brad Lohaus/ALvin Robertson.Sheesh! That was a untalented roster.
Which system is this game better on.. PS2?? or Xbox??.. im about to get one and cant decide btw the two.. but i will mainly be using it for basketball (the 2K series) and football (madden and NCAA).. if you guys have any suggestions please lemme know..
Ima say Xbox. The controls of the NBA 2K series is much better on Xbox because the controller itself emulates the Dreamcast controller which where the game was originally made for. Plus I heard you can import your college players from NCAA to Madden, which is pretty cool.
To me, NBA Live really has been left behind. I certainly remember playing it and having a lot of fun, but NBA2k2 just flat-out has better gameplay than NBA Live 2002. EA did some really stupid things, like (on the PS2 version, anyway) make a 3D crowd, which slowed down the frame-rate ridiculously. The 2D crowd in NBA2K2 looks just fine, it's not something you notice, and I'd never give up frames for something like that. That said, I definetley have some beef with the 2K series, even though it is by far the best bunch of B-Ball games ever made. I'm talking about the Dreamcast version unless I specify otherwise. Here goes: Dumb things about NBA2K2 that I really hope they fix for the next version 1. You cannot see player ratings. They've let you see more each year, such as 3-point ratings, but I like to know how good they made everyone in every category. Going with that... 2. You cannot edit players. Some players are drastically underrated, especially rookies that people hadn't really seen yet. Live lets you edit players. 3. Back-ups are not given credit. This is something Live does very well. In Live 2001 or 2002, I can't remember, Jim McIlvaine was one of the top 5 shotblockers in the league by rating. In the 2K series, back-ups are most often not given credit for the areas they really excel in, making all the benches in the game nearly the same. 4. For some bizarre reason, you cannot customize a created player's weight. Once you choose a height, the weight is "linked" to it. Meaning if I wanted to bring back the Chuckster, he would be about 220. Then he's not much good, is he? 5. The historical players are often drastically overrated or underrated. Case in point: Dave Bing was a "75" rating in 2K2. That's about as good as Jon Barry. Why have him in the game if you're going to make him suck? Similarly, Bernard King and Adrian Dantley were dropped for this year's game in favor of (both overrated in the game) Xavier McDaniel and Danny Ainge. Again, this could be fixed if the game allowed you to edit players. 6. Franchise mode sucks. Really... it's HORRIBLE. Player ratings change, get this, every WEEK. Starting out, your rookies will be stars in a month, while your veterans will deteriorate will ridiculous speed. It's also far too easy to make trades: apparently the Lakers wouldn't mind trading Kobe for Malone. The salaries and resignings are also very unrealistic. 7. The game is far too easy. I play 8-minute quarters (on All-Star difficulty), and average about 160 pts/game. I have scored over 200 three times. The computer usually manages 50-60 on me. 8. In the PS2 version, an obvious oversight was the inablitiy to change the defensive controls... only the offensive ones. That really turned me off buying that version. 9. Now two small complaints: have more than one model for a coach (all coaches are the same height/weight [Don Nelson really slimmed down ]) and add cameramen, since there are always cameras at NBA games. I like Live's menus and ratings system, but gameplay will always win me out, and in that aspect the 2K series is far superior.
I only play head to head with a friend. Playing the computer is a waist of time. My main complaints is that it is too easy to score down low. Any decent player can flat foot power dunk on you. (Which is really dumb when it's the 6'3" guards doing flat footed dunks) I'd like to see more D in the paint bringing the shooting percentages down & then I have no real complaints. I'm far more concerned with game play than w/the way the game looks. All those games look good. Just b/c a portrait doesn't look exactly like a player doesn't concern me.
true if live had 2k's game play it would be better. Nba live has a lot of dunks. I love the way the franchise mode is in live, because in the draft they give you awsome details. Its so realistic. They don't do dumb trades either. And you don't go from a 78 to a 90 in 1 month on your player ratings. I hate live ratings too. They get better too slow. They should make it like the madden franchise. They get better by more than 1 point in 1 year.
Really? Who's doing that to you? I think you may be playing on Arcade mode, which is nowhere near realistic. In the few times I've played in arcade mode, I've seen both Brevin Knight and John Stockton doing statue-of-liberty free-throw line dunks. Change it to Simulation mode, and that doesn't happen, or only if your dunk rating is really high. I play with Francis all the time, his dunk rating is super high, he's 6'3", and he can't do flat-footed power dunks. Even for guys like Fortson, who is 6'7", 260, if they don't have a good dunk rating they won't do that. As for D, it's really easy to steal from a guy who's posting up, and if they shoot on you, leaning the right way will severely decrease his chances of hitting the shot (even more than getting a hand in someone's face on a normal jumper). Come to think of it, I'd also like it if they included post fakes next year. Dream Shake! Also, why do they have refs in street games? By the way, you guys would hate Malone's ratings: besides Nowitzki, he's the best jump-shooter at PF. I can sit and shoot post fadeaways all day and shoot 85%. Funny stuff.
I had Live 2002 on PS2 and I expected better. While I wouldnt play Franchise mode in Live (Even though that all I play in the Madden series!) I thought the Live Franchise mde was terrible. Very little info and no freedom at all. I the create a player feature...the player faces are so terrible that I'd expect better from a game made in the mid 90's! If you were trying to create a white player you had to make them look like an alien! I felt NBA Live was also a wierd game where the higher level settings were unrealistic, but the more realistic ones were to easy. I found myself having to play a lowere difficulty setting and then editing players on my team to make them less then perfect! NBA2k2 does not sound a great deal better. Hopefully NBA 2K3 is more complete. Like most Ive just about given up on the NBA Live series.
As for the X-Box Live, Microsoft just recently sent me an e-mail confirming that I was a beta-tester. I was then prompted to the X-Box's shopping system where I spent $49.95 for the X-Box Live kit. Anyway, I'm going to buy NBA2k3 as soon as it comes out, and I'll let ya'll know how it handles the 'Live' capabilities. The game looks alot better (from looking at screen shots). Lets hope it plays better too.
Some more problems with NBA2k2: -Created players can not power-dunk. If 7'5" Yao Ming is directly under the basket, he will twist around for a poorly animated reverse layup off the glass. If 6'9" Eddie Griffin is in the same position, he will power-dunk it. In order to dunk, created players need a running start. -The artificial intelligence is horrid. If they are down by three with ten seconds left, they will take a two, EVERY TIME. Even if I leave them wide open behind the arc, they will take one or two steps in, and launch a two-point jumper. -Free throws are too easy. -Shaq will shoot and make 21-foot jumpers at a 50 percent rate. -The defense rotates too quickly. -My biggest complaint: Fast breaks are nearly impossible. Not only is the opponent's transition defense far too good, wing players will also stop and catch the outlet pass, rather than continuing to run towards the hoop.
Definately playing in Simulation mode on the hardest setting. I can flat foot power dunk w/Francis easily. Bruce Bowen & Steve Smith flat foot power dunk on me repeatedly. It ****ing sucks & is totally unrealistic. I have no problems with Duncan flat foot dunking but Francis & Steve Smith shouldn't be able to. .... It's real easy to create space down low & is easy to steal from a guy in the post with a double team, but when you play another person & not the computer me & my friends find the open guy for the 3 most times.
also the guard look way too tall compared to the goals. They all look like the play on 9 foot goals. They also don't have enough dunks. I read in the acrticle about 2k, that if you go up for a layup/dunk you can tap shoot again to do some acrobatic shot, but if you do it for no reason at all you chances of missing increase. It weird. Also like if your gonna get blocked by shaq on a layup you can push O and he will do a jordan like crazy shot. t hard to explain sorry.
i love using the rockets on that game... nba2k2... is it me or is there no backup SG for them at the start of the year?? mobley and??? i led them deep into the playoffs beating the lakers... then i stopped with them cuz it seemed unrealistic... lmao
Another one I didn't think of! You can't put them in the draft. Dreamcast version you can. My favorite drafted team: Chamberlain, Bird (yes, I somehow got Bird at #2) Maravich, Mullin (created), and Christie. Back-ups: Marshall, Outlaw, Williamson, Monroe, Snow, Piatkowski, and Lenard. Basically, just Chamberlain and a whole bunch of shooters, with a few exceptions. Serious inside-outside game .
Cool, I got the email also saying that I was one of the beta testers, but they didnt give me a link to purchase the kit. They said they would contact me in the next 30 days for the link to purchase it.
