I dont think that they would just go on anyones word. This is a lot of cash. It would have never happened (giving her the winnings).
Why the hell did she tell anyone? I would have just kept searching the parking lot and anything else out there until I found it.
You would hope that the store that sold that winning ticket has cameras. So they could match the time the ticket was printed with camera footage. If she's not on there, well, case closed. If she is, well, I guess we'll see how good her lawyers are.
Winner Claims $162M Lottery Ticket Said To Be Lost http://www.local6.com/money/2743313/detail.html SOUTH EUCLID, Ohio -- The Ohio Lottery says a South Euclid woman turned in the winning ticket for a $162 million Mega Millions lottery, not the Cleveland woman who claims she lost the ticket last week. Rebecca Jemison turned in the ticket for the 11-state jackpot at Ohio Lottery headquarters in downtown Cleveland. She and her husband appeared at a news conference Monday morning to claim the prize. Jemison has a husband Sam and a 12-year-old daughter. Officials say Jemison is taking the lump-sum cash payout, worth about $95 million before taxes, which is worth $67.2 million after taxes. "I've been playing these numbers for approximately two years," Jemison said. But she said she only plays them when the jackpot is high. She told reporters, "I guess it paid off." She said she picked the numbers randomly. She said it took her so long to come forward because she's been working with an attorney and an accountant. "Luck had nothing to do with this, this was truly a blessing," Jemison said. Jemison said now that she's won the lottery, she's "going to Disneyworld." The announcement came after Elecia Battle, (pictured, left) said that she dropped the winning ticket in the parking lot outside the South Euclid store where she bought it. Jemison said she felt "anger" when she heard that someone else claimed to have bought and lost the winning ticket. She said she'll "let the authorities handle her." Battle told police she dropped her purse and didn't realize the ticket had fallen out until after the drawing. Police said it's too bad, because whoever turns up with the ticket is considered the winner. Millionaire wanna-bes gathered outside the store Monday searching for the ticket. People looked under bushes and in trash. "For $162 million, yeah, it's worth being out here probably all night," said Jim Allen. However, Battle believes the ticket still belongs to her. "It's my ticket. I lost it. I will be more than glad to reward you," Battle said. Battle's attorney is expected to make a statement about the reward on Wednesday. After the final tally, officials said the ticket is worth $162 million and a one-time cash payment of $95 million. Battle said the numbers are significant in her life. * 12-18 is her son's birthday. * 32 is her other son's birthday reversed. * 36 is year her sister was born. * 49 is her husband's age. * 21 was picked for luck.
Don't they keep track of the store where the lottery ticket is sold? I remember always seeing a 7-11 store clerk interviewed whenever a huge sum of money is won in the lottery, with questions like "how does it feel to have sold the winning ticket?" Plus, I'm sure the store selling the ticket gets a small kickback, right? So they must keep track. Couldn't they just check whether the store she claims to buy the ticket from actually sold the winning ticket? I was confused about this fact because CNN said the store's security cameras were not functioning. This didn't make much sense to me b/c I thought they tracked lottery tickets. Either way, that store basically told telling the nation... "HEY COME ROB US AND GET AWAY WITH IT!"
Well, she can use some of that $67 million to change her identity and maybe get some plastic surgery, because if that other chick doesn't win in court, she probably come after her with a baseball bat...
What a load of crap. Why not use 23 instead of 32? Why not her sons' age or her age instead of 21 for luck? Here, let's try this: 12...My son's age 18...My other son's birthday (1-18) 32...My old football number reversed 36...Year my mom was born. 49...My sister's age. 21...Legal drinking age (to celebrate winning) HEY, maybe that's my winning ticket I lost!
Here is the guy who sold the ticket. The article says the store is in South Euclid so she could be telling the truth, but we will never know.
Sorry folks. It's mine. I was on my way to my dyslexics anonymous meeting... 12 - 21 reversed (for luck) 18 - my birthday (got this one right) 32 - michael jordans number (reversed) 36 - my moms age (reversed) 49 - the year i got married (reversed) 21 - 12 (reversed -- for reversed luck) I'm willing to give half to the person who found the ticket, though...just to be fair.
Here is a link to a similar article btut I am pulling out a section to repost because I think it closes the case: http://www.kfdm1.com/engine.pl?station=kfdm&id=4113&template=breakoutlocal.html
And one wonders... Did she really expect to get away with this???? Here...lets flash the international media on me...and maybe the real ticket buyer will just hand over $90m? And I was leaning to believe her story. But then...i believed Pete Rose too.
Can you imagine walking around your community after telling a lie like that, not only does EVERYONE know you're a liar, but they also know how stupid you are. What's the point, she wasn't going to get the money anyway?
I should have named this thread Natural Born Liar. She has made herself look really bad. Then she had her friends and neighbors looking for the ticket all night.
This lady reminds me of a local story, here in Houston. Did you guys hear about the lady who called authorities to report that her sister was kidnapped? This lady was crying, pleaing with the public for the safe return of her sister. Meanwhile, her sister, pregnant with her 8th child, was out with some of her 'friends' and didn't want her husband to know. So she gets her sister to report her as being kidnapped. I gotta hand it to the sister though, she was crying, and was pretty convincing. Anyway, the sister is now in trouble for false report of a kidnap or something to that effect. What was the conversation like when they were thinking THAT plan up? What a world we live in.
