Reports are that Nate turned down 10 mil over 2 years with a Greece team and is now signing a 1 year deal for 5 mil with the Knicks. I had no idea he was worth that much, that's Allen Iverson money. Is this the Knicks throwing around money because they don't care or is he actually worth it.
He's been showing that he can be a legititmately good PG in the league besides winning the Dunk Contest over Supaman. I'd take him if we didn't have Lowry and AB already running the point. He's small but is turning a good scorer, similar to AB. - Shouldn't this be in the Dish.
turning down 10 million for 2 years in europe is a mistake dont they have different tax structures where he would be making more money? unless he really doesnt want to leave the following he has made in NY then thats cool settling for a 1 year deal when he is a fan favorite and probably should get at least a 3 year deal from the knicks. i wouldnt want nate on my team but he is entertaining to watch though
Supposedly they pay your tax, but I don't know if they would pay your US income tax, which you would still have to pay as a US citizen. It may not be worth moving to another country that speaks another language, has different customs, be away from your family, and many players are having a hard time getting paid on a regular basis.
He still has to pay US taxes, anyway european contracts aren't guaranteed and you frequently don't get paid on time, or in some cases, at all.
He was a top 25 fantasy player last year I believe. It will not be long before he is the perennial best 6th man in the league...
This just fits into their 2010 flexibility that Walsh has been talking about. I really doubt any superstar/star changes team but they want to be under the cap and it seems Nate understands. Plus, if both he and Lee sign 1 yr deals, Knicks will have the ability to go over the cap for them once signing their new player next yr.
That block on Yao and his 2 dunk contests were worth 5M. Its only a 1 year deal and the NY fans love him.
Does anyone else find this absolutely hilarious? I'd wager that the majority of teams in the league would rather sign Nate Robinson than AI at this point in their careers. I'm kinda surprised Robinson hasn't garnered more attention in FA this year. Guess it goes to show you how insane the economics of the NBA are right now. Five years ago Lamar Odom was getting paid $9.6 million in the first year of a new contract. Coming off of a championship season, he's considering deals that will pay him 2/3rds of that. Think about it: nine or ten years ago Kelvin Cato was getting a contract that would pay him more than deals given to Lamar Odom, Andre Miller, Ron Artest, Trevor Ariza, and Charlie Villanueva this year.
Nice player but pretty shocking that he's getting $5million. There must be some stipulation included requiring him to seek counseling for that insufferable Napoleon Complex. Nate Robinson has managed to single handedly make the dunk contest literally unwatchable and that is really saying a lot considering the lengths the league has gone to in ensuring such an outcome.
Why are a lot of people saying this? The guy put up 17.5 ppg, 4 apg, and 4 rpg on the season, 21, 5, and 5 as a starter. How is that not worth 5 mil in today's NBA? Hell, that may even be a bargain.
The Knick's are doing a bit of both, it helps them now to see how he plays as he is one of their few legitimate scoring threats. The other positive is they never wanted to commit to him long term just yet as they want to see how the Lebron situation pans out, therefore the one year deal.
because ppg are meaningless when you play for Dantoni. In fact, all of his stats are inflated because of the increased number of possessions and emphasis on offense only style. He really hasn't grown much as a player.
Have you ever seen Brian Cardinals contract? To me that is the measuring stick for if something is a bad deal or not. So I will say Nate Robinson = not a bad contract.
it looks like Nate just used the Greek team to up the market price for him. so Knicks had to match at a similar rate but lesser terms
Nate lacks the skills to play PG and lacks the height to play the 2 guard. However he is the most impressive athlete to join the NBA since LeBron. Give him another 6-8 inches and he would be an All-Star. With that said he isn't worth much in the NBA even with all his talent.
